It looks like we've got a spell of warmer weather on the way - please be mindful of leaving dogs in the car. The temperature rises MUCH faster than you think, even with the windows cracked open.

Top tips to avoid heat stroke:
➡️Avoid exercising your dog during the hottest part of the day
➡️Check the footpath temperature before setting out on your walk
➡️Ensure there's plenty of shade and fresh water available for them
➡️Do not leave your dog in the car for ANY length of time

Two paddocks on a non-sentinel farm in Kopane recorded 75,000 and 110,000, and sentinel farms in Bulls and Matiere/Ohura were 35,000 and 45,000 respectively. The Ohau site at Levin has had three weeks at 15,000 to 20,000.

Spores ingested at these levels for several weeks will be affecting the liver even though you may not be seeing symptoms at this point.

All animals grazing paddocks at these levels should be protected with zinc whether by bolus, in the water, or in feed.

Our first Facial Eczema Spore Count Bulletin is live for 2026.

Counts are currently LOW across our monitor farms, BUT warm, humid conditions in combination with 4-5mm of rain or even heavy dews, and overnight grass minimum temperatures of 12°C for 2-4 nights are usually sufficient to cause a lift in spore counts.

If you don't have a prevention plan in place for your farm, talk to your vet

Gastric ulcers are very common, and have a variety of symptoms including: weight loss, girthiness, behavioural changes, poor performance and/or poor or fussy appetite.

If you've noticed anything 'off' about your horse, let us know so we can check them out.

⚠️ HEAT STROKE WARNING - BE MINDFUL OF DOGS IN CARS ⚠️

It's getting warm out there this week, and vehicle temperatures rise rapidly - even with the windows cracked open.

Within just 10 minutes, the inside of your car can become 10 degrees hotter than the outside temperature. This can very quickly become a dangerous situation for your dog.
