Gastric ulcers are very common, and have a variety of symptoms including: weight loss, girthiness, behavioural changes, poor performance and/or poor or fussy appetite.

If you've noticed anything 'off' about your horse, let us know so we can check them out.

A new era for equine health in New Zealand begins with the launch of NEIT - National Equine Identification & Traceability (NEIT) System. The primary goal is to protect the health of New Zealand horses by enabling the identification and traceability of horses through microchipping and registration. It is now mandatory for all foals born in New Zealand from August 1, 2025 and all imported horses to be microchipped and registered with the database. All other horses (born before August 2025) are not required but strongly encouraged to be registered as well.
For the month of December, Totally Vets Awapuni is offering discounted microchip implantation services (this is $81.60 in total if you bring your horse to the clinic) this is in conjunction with free f***l egg count analysis. This is a great opportunity to register your horse with the NEIT system and check for intestinal parasites at the same time. For enquiries and bookings, please contact the clinic 06 356 5011.
