In Traditional Chinese Medicine, sleep is closely linked with how well the Heart and mind can settle at night.

1️. Wind down before 10pm
TCM views late nights as overstimulating to the Heart. A calm evening routine helps signal the body to rest.

2️. Reduce mental stimulation at night
Overthinking, screens, and late work can keep the Heart active. Gentle activities help the mind slow down.

3️. Create a calm bedtime environment
Low light, quiet space, and consistent sleep times support the Heart’s ability to settle the Shen.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, certain foods are thought to help nourish the Heart and calm the mind.

1️. Oats
Gently nourish Heart Qi and Blood. Often used when sleep is light or the mind feels overactive.

2️. Red dates (jujube)
Traditionally used to support the Heart and calm the Shen. Common in evening teas or soups.

3️. Almonds
Thought to help nourish Yin and support relaxation, especially when sleep feels restless or dry.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Heart is responsible for housing the Shen (mind).
When the Heart is not well supported, the mind may struggle to fully settle at night.

This can show up as:
• Difficulty falling asleep
• Light or easily disturbed sleep
• Waking during the night
• Feeling mentally restless or anxious

From a TCM perspective, this often relates to the Heart lacking enough nourishment or becoming overstimulated by stress and overthinking.
