This weekend, after a hard fought battle, my dad took his final breath.
5 years after my own “cancer journey” (I don’t like this term but it’s one most people understand), dad lost his fight.
Ironically 50 odd years of smoking and it was his lungs & heart that were the last to give out.
It’s one of those moments that makes it very clear - our time here is short, fragile, and unbelievably precious.
It was a reminder of how easily we slip into the rush … the stress … the “I’ll take care of myself later.” But later isn’t promised!
And our bodies carry far more of our lives than we realise - the laughs, the grief, the joy, the pace, the pressure.
So this is your gentle reminder (and mine too)
Taking care of yourself doesn’t have to be big, expensive, or time-consuming.
Sometimes it’s as simple as
✨stepping outside and feeling the sun on your face
✨taking three slow, deep breaths
✨drinking a glass of water before anything else
✨putting your hand on your heart and checking in
✨going to bed a little earlier
✨letting yourself rest without guilt
✨saying no when your body whispers “please”
✨walking barefoot on the grass (I’ve done plenty of this at mum & dad’s this week)
✨talking to someone you love
✨letting yourself cry when you need to
Life is short, and the days move fast.
So if you take anything from this, let it be this - be a little kinder to yourself today. Your body deserves it.
