Working Below the Surface – Safely Supporting Essential Infrastructure 💧

Today our team is operating in a potable (consumable) water reservoir supplying the Balclutha community.

Working in drinking water environments requires the highest level of care, preparation, and attention to detail. Prior to entering the reservoir, all dive equipment undergoes a full wash-down and sanitation process to eliminate any contamination risk and ensure water quality is fully protected.

Our dive team follows strict health and safety protocols in line with industry standards, including:
• Certified commercial divers operating under AS/NZS 2299.1:2015
• Full pre-dive risk assessments and job safety analysis
• Controlled entry procedures and contamination prevention measures
• Continuous surface support and emergency preparedness

This type of work is critical to maintaining the integrity of essential infrastructure—often unseen, but vital to the communities we serve.

Proud to be supporting safe, clean water systems across New Zealand.

The Bay Underwater Services NZ Limited team has been back in the river this week, carrying out specialist dive work to clear debris from a council water intake.

Working in a moving river environment requires careful planning, experienced divers, and a strong focus on health and safety. Our team carried out detailed hazard assessments and maintained constant communication between the dive team and surface support to ensure the job was completed safely and efficiently.

Jobs like these highlight the wide variety of work our team undertakes — from marine projects to inland waterways — all while supporting critical infrastructure for local communities.

And while the conditions can be challenging, it’s hard to beat working in some of the beautiful locations New Zealand has to offer.

Another great effort from the crew delivering safe, professional results.

Out of the water and into a ‘spa day’ for Karen D 🚤

Today we hauled our dive support vessel out for a full hull clean and inspection. Marine growth builds up over time and even a thin layer can slow a vessel down and increase fuel consumption. Keeping Karen D’s hull clean helps us maintain good speed, better fuel efficiency, and safe, reliable operations on the water.

You could say we’re giving her bottom a proper scrub… but it’s all in the name of performance! 😉

A clean hull means she’ll be back out there running smoother, faster, and more efficiently for the next round of dive operations.

Another Class Society inspection successfully completed by the team at Bay Underwater Services NZ Limited.

We are proud to hold approved service supplier certification with:

• ABS
• Bureau Veritas
• Class NK
• DNV
• Lloyd’s Register
• RINA

Each Class Society certification requires rigorous internal and external auditing to ensure full compliance with their individual technical standards and procedural requirements.

These approvals are not simply paperwork exercises. They involve:

✔ Comprehensive internal audits of our management systems and documentation
✔ Verification of equipment certification, calibration, and maintenance records
✔ Detailed review of dive procedures and reporting processes
✔ On-site audits observing our team delivering services in real operational conditions

Every society maintains strict and independent guidelines. Maintaining multiple approvals means our systems, training, equipment, and reporting must consistently meet international classification standards across all audited areas.

For our clients, this provides assurance that inspections are conducted by a certified commercial dive team operating under recognised global best practice — delivering accurate reporting, safe ex*****on, and compliance you can rely on.

Quality systems. Verified processes. Certified capability.

Installation complete ✔️

Following the successful manufacture of this upgraded channel marker buoy, the team at Bay Underwater Services NZ Limited returned to site to carry out the full installation.

Engineered and built in-house, the new marker buoy was designed to withstand harsh marine conditions, high vessel traffic, and long-term exposure to tide and weather. From structural components to mooring configuration, every detail was carefully considered to ensure durability, stability, and compliance with navigational requirements.

Installation in an active boating channel requires more than just the right equipment — it requires planning, coordination, and strict health & safety controls. Our certified commercial dive team implemented controlled work zones, maintained constant diver communication, and operated under robust safety management procedures to protect both our crew and the public.

With precise positioning and secure anchoring completed, the new marker buoy is now fully operational — providing clear, reliable guidance for vessel movements in this busy local waterway.

Another project delivered safely, professionally, and built to perform.

If you require design, manufacture, or installation of navigation aids, our team is ready to assist.

Another successful project delivered by the team at Bay Underwater Services NZ Limited.

We recently supplied a certified working platform and skipper to support the cleaning of bridge piles ahead of scheduled inspection works. Providing a stable and compliant platform ensures our team can carry out operations safely and efficiently, particularly when working around critical infrastructure.

As always, health and safety was front and centre — with robust procedures in place and close coordination alongside an experienced team of engineers. Once the piles were cleaned, material samples were carefully collected, sealed, and sent to a laboratory for testing as part of the wider assessment process.

Proud to play our part in supporting essential infrastructure maintenance and delivering safe, professional marine services.

Another great project completed by the team at Bay Underwater Services NZ Limited — the replacement of a channel marker buoy in a busy local settlement.

With a high volume of private vessels regularly using the channel to launch and retrieve their boats, maintaining clear and reliable navigation aids is critical for safe access. Our team managed the project from start to finish, including the design and manufacture of the upgraded replacement marker buoy.

The removal of the old buoy and installation of the new unit was carefully planned and executed with a strong focus on health and safety. Working in an active boating area requires clear communication, controlled work zones, and robust procedures to protect both our dive team and the public.

Another job delivered safely, efficiently, and built to last.

Another wee dip in the crystal clear waters of the Maldives…… well not quite 🙄.
Our team undertake another contamination dive in water where you can’t see your hand in front of your face. Having a highly skilled team on site means that we can undertake tasks without being able to see it - simply by ‘feel’ and experience. That’s the difference in working with a team from Bay Underwater Services NZ Limited ✅✅✅

BLUFF formally known as…… CAMPBELLTOWN!The area has been permanently occupied since the establishment of a whaling station in 1836. Originally named Campbelltown in 1856, the local moniker “Bluff” (in reference to the prominent 265m conical hill the township nestles beside) became the town’s official name in 1917. As one of the oldest European settlements in New Zealand, Bluff has a rich history and many interesting attractions. It also offers many wonderful short walks, both bush and coastal, that showcase the stunning scenery and views.

Turns out we are destined to be there 😂
