Not your average day at the office 🌊

Out in the river clearing weed—one of the many jobs that keeps commercial diving interesting. No two days are ever the same, and that’s exactly why we love it.

Safety is always front of mind, from gearing up properly to working as a tight team on every job. It’s what allows us to get the work done and come back up safely every time.

And while it’s hard work (and yes… pretty cold 🥶), it’s not a bad way to spend the day—working in some of the most beautiful spots New Zealand has to offer.

Different jobs, different challenges, same focus: get it done safely.

Supporting local, one small act at a time ❤️

We picked up a few of these “Family 2 Family” food parcels the other day and it’s something we try to do regularly. Such a simple way to make a real difference for families in our community.

Big shoutout to New World for this awesome initiative—making it easy for all of us to give back and support local food charities.

If you’re heading in-store, consider grabbing one (or a few). Every bit helps 💛

When It Matters Most, Experience Shows ⚓

Salvage work isn’t routine—it’s pressure, precision, and persistence all rolled into one.

Our team has delivered successful salvages across a wide range of vessels, from small craft to large, complex recoveries. Every job is different, but one thing stays the same: it takes experience, skill, and a crew that knows how to respond when it counts.

Sometimes it means long hours. Sometimes it means pushing through at critical moments instead of stepping away—because losing momentum isn’t an option. It’s about digging deep, staying focused, and giving that little bit extra to get the job across the line safely.

And when it all comes together? That moment of success makes every bit of effort worth it.

From the Field to the Interview Seat 🎥⚓

Not every day you swap dive gear for an interview… especially at a Navy base.

Rob recently stepped in front of the camera to talk about the work completed on the HMNZS Manawanui salvage project, as part of an award finalist interview for Bay Underwater Services. Safe to say there were a few nerves going in—but when you know your stuff, that confidence takes over pretty quickly.

From complex underwater operations to maintaining the highest safety standards, Rob spoke to the experience and capability our team brings to challenging projects like this.

We’re proud to see the work being recognised… more to come on this one 👀

ANZAC Day - for the first time in forever, I won’t be attending an Anzac Day service - but I will remember them. The sacrifices they made for us, and our future generations.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them." (From Laurence Binyon’s "For the Fallen").

These Barnacles? 👍 …Those Barnacles? 👎

Some barnacles are right where they belong…
(clinging to shells, doing their thing 🦪)

But the ones hitching a ride on hulls, intakes, and underwater infrastructure?
Yeah… those ones have to go.

From mussels packed with marine growth to heavily fouled intake systems, our team’s been busy getting surfaces back to clean, efficient, and operating the way they should.

Because when it comes to hulls and critical infrastructure:
✔️ Less growth = better performance
✔️ Less drag = more efficiency
✔️ Clean systems = fewer problems

Safe, effective, and a little satisfying too.

Weather Doesn’t Stop the Work 🌧️💨

Rain, wind, and cold conditions didn’t slow our crew down this week. Our team was out on site completing dredging work on a client’s settlement pond and river intake—safely and efficiently.

From in-water operations to shoreline support, every step was carefully managed to ensure safety remained the top priority while getting the job done right. Proud of the crew for delivering in tough conditions.

Out on the water beyond New Zealand, our commercial diving team has been hard at work carrying out a full hull clean on a large vessel 🌊

The level of biofouling we’re removing is significant, and the transformation speaks for itself — the before and after results show just how much of a difference a professional clean can make.

Not only does this improve the vessel’s performance, but it also plays a key role in increasing fuel efficiency and reducing overall operating costs.

Jobs like this often mean long days on the water, and our team remains focused on maintaining the highest standards of health and safety at all times. Strong planning, strict procedures, and active fatigue management ensure the job gets done safely, no matter the conditions.

Proud of the effort our crew continues to put in on every project 💪

Working Below the Surface – Safely Supporting Essential Infrastructure 💧

Today our team is operating in a potable (consumable) water reservoir supplying the Balclutha community.

Working in drinking water environments requires the highest level of care, preparation, and attention to detail. Prior to entering the reservoir, all dive equipment undergoes a full wash-down and sanitation process to eliminate any contamination risk and ensure water quality is fully protected.

Our dive team follows strict health and safety protocols in line with industry standards, including:
• Certified commercial divers operating under AS/NZS 2299.1:2015
• Full pre-dive risk assessments and job safety analysis
• Controlled entry procedures and contamination prevention measures
• Continuous surface support and emergency preparedness

This type of work is critical to maintaining the integrity of essential infrastructure—often unseen, but vital to the communities we serve.

Proud to be supporting safe, clean water systems across New Zealand.

The Bay Underwater Services NZ Limited team has been back in the river this week, carrying out specialist dive work to clear debris from a council water intake.

Working in a moving river environment requires careful planning, experienced divers, and a strong focus on health and safety. Our team carried out detailed hazard assessments and maintained constant communication between the dive team and surface support to ensure the job was completed safely and efficiently.

Jobs like these highlight the wide variety of work our team undertakes — from marine projects to inland waterways — all while supporting critical infrastructure for local communities.

And while the conditions can be challenging, it’s hard to beat working in some of the beautiful locations New Zealand has to offer.

Another great effort from the crew delivering safe, professional results.
