Understanding the effect of aging
Do you sometimes get up on a morning and just feel stiff all over?
You feel lethargic, and it’s making you feel really old.
You know you need to get fit and healthy, but something always comes up, but hey, you say to yourself, I will wait till tomorrow and put some time aside to focus on me for once.
Tomorrow comes around and it gets pushed back to the pile of other things you need to do.
You always seem to be last on the list of things. What with kids and grandkids doing something for yourself, when is that going to happen.

Unfortunately as we age it is about making our health and fitness a priority and putting ourselves first.

It needs to be a priority, because if you don’t do this you are going to wake up one day with more stiffness, less mobility and reduced quality of life because you didn’t do anything too sooner.

The amount of clients I have worked with that just felt that it seemed to be one day everything just got harder, to be able to get off the floor or couch, hang out the washing make it round the supermarket, get the shopping out of the car and enjoy time playing with grandkids and joining in

Effort + consistency = results when it comes to your stress levels and getting to your goal

Do you realise that consistent effort is how you will achieve the results you want?
If your body is stressed it will take time to take the breaks off if you have got to an age where consistent YO YO dieting and trying everything has made your body even more stressed.
It really can't differentiate between dietary, emotional or physical stress it just sees it as one.
To be able to get my own body working well, all I have done. is been consistent with my effort.

Even when I didn't feel like it and at times and everyone was biding for my time. Family work and everything else that can make you put yourself last and prioritize that

This can make you come unstuck because maybe one of those days, you didn't do what you planned. so you feel disheartened.
Then you think OH WELL I will start a fresh, next week rather than keeping going and making the most of the week your on!
All my clients I have worked with who have got the best result were the ones that implemented these things on a consistent basis, and of course they never gave up!

That is all I have done. Been consistent with my effort.
With diet, exercise and working on reducing my stress so my body works well.

Exercise to Rejuvenate Your Body and Give You That Spring in Your Step
Diaphragmatic breathing is a breathing exercise that helps strengthen the diaphragm and inner core, improving mobility and strength. This exercise is sometimes known as belly or abdominal breathing.

On my program I often see women with hip and sciatic issues caused by a weak inner core, which in turn causes stress injuries to other parts of the body. Take for instance someone who enjoys gardening… this requires a great deal of bending. Without inner core strength, they will be hanging off their ligaments – putting stress on other areas of their body.
I regularly use Diaphragmatic breathing with my clients as it produces some great benefits. It re-trains the inner core muscles, calms the nervous system and increases blood flow to the gut (helping it to work better). It’s also an effective tool in lowering stress levels (you’ll find it at the basis of most meditation and relaxation exercises).

If you would like to try it for yourself, here’s a quick tutorial.
✨Sit or lie down on a flat surface with your knees bent (you can use a pillow under your head if this is more comfortable).
✨Relax your shoulders, moving them down away from your ears.
✨Place one hand on your chest and one hand on your stomach.
✨Breathe in slowly through your nose, allowing the air in deeply towards your lower belly. Continue breathing in until you cannot take in any more air. You should feel the hand on your abdomen rise while the hand on your chest remains relatively still.
✨Tighten your abdominal muscles and purse your lips.
✨Now exhale slowly through your pursed lips – allowing your belly to fall back to its original position.

I hope you find this a useful exercise. It’s a great (portable) tool that you can use whenever you’re feeling anxious.

Understanding Menopause:
Beyond Hormones and Stress

There is a lot of stuff out there about menopause. This is something that I specialise in.

It's not just looking at the hormones, it's looking at all aspects of your body.

When I work with clients who have issues with stress, which everyone these days seems to have some kind of stress whether it be family, work, or financial,

I let them know that when you hit menopause, your progesterone levels go down, and your oestrogen levels go up.

Progesterone and pregnenolone are mother hormones in the production of cortisol, your stress hormone. If you are under stress, this could be from general stress, over-exercising, or yo-yo dieting.

Your body is going to store everything you put in your mouth as fat.

If you're stressed, listen to your body and go have a relaxing bath.

As I have said to my clients for years, your body adapts at rest.
