When we talk about weight, we often focus on the way our clothes fit or how we look in the mirror. But carrying extra weight affects far more than appearance — it can influence how your body functions behind the scenes in surprising ways.

Most people don’t realise that fat cells aren’t just passive storage pockets for extra energy. They’re actually biologically active, releasing chemical messengers throughout the body. Some of these messengers are inflammatory proteins called cytokines, and when fat cells increase beyond what your body is built to handle, cytokines can tip your system into a state of chronic, low-grade inflammation.

Why Chronic Inflammation Matters

I'm in my 60's and I've recently lost 8 kilos with Miraculoss, which I'm very happy about for all the obvious reasons, but the funny thing is, due to the loss of weight I am a lot more flexible.

Don’t get me wrong I’ve always been very flexible but now there’s not the extra padding to deal with, I'm super flexible again!

Last weekend I played Spotlight with 16 young people and six adults.
Oh my goodness! I scaled walls. I climbed up ladders. I maneuvered myself along the ground and in the bush.

And I got home twice without being spotted! And I did it in the shortest time! Everyone was blown away. It was so funny :-)

Reducing starchy foods doesn’t have to be complicated.

The secret?
✨ Change one or two things at a time.

Once you know a few simple swaps, it becomes surprisingly easy.

Here are some ideas:

🥖 Bread → egg wraps, cloud bread (photo above), Harvest Pantry mixes
🥨 Crackers → cucumber slices, seed crackers
🍚 Rice → cauliflower rice, konjac rice, or cold cooked rice
🍝 Pasta → spiralised courgettes, carrots, cabbage, konjac noodles
🥔 Potatoes → mashed cauliflower, pumpkin or swede
🍟 Chippies → veggie sticks, kale chips, baked cheese slices

💡 Tip: When cooked rice is cooled, about ⅓ of the starch becomes resistant starch, meaning it digests more slowly and has less impact on blood sugar.

Small swaps can make a big difference over time.

Reducing or eliminating starchy foods from your diet can feel a bit daunting at first — especially if foods like bread, rice, pasta, and potatoes have been everyday staples.

The good news is that once you learn a few simple swaps, it actually becomes surprisingly easy. The key is not trying to change everything at once. Start with one or two swaps, and build from there.

Here are some simple alternatives to common starchy foods:

🥖 Bread
• Harvest Pantry bread mixes
• Egg-based wraps
• Cloud bread (made with beaten egg whites and cream cheese – Google the recipe)
• Low-carb breads used sparingly

🥨 Crackers
• Cucumber slices
• Seed crackers
• Harvest Pantry cracker mixes
• Toasted seed breads

🍚 Rice
• Cauliflower rice
• Konjac rice
• Cold cooked rice (once cooked rice has cooled, about ⅓ of the starch becomes resistant starch, making it slower to digest).
Great in veggie & rice salads or fried rice.

🍝 Pasta
• Spiralised veggies like courgettes or carrots
• Thinly sliced cabbage
• Konjac noodles

🥔 Potatoes
• Mashed cauliflower, pumpkin or swede
• Roasted Mediterranean vegetables
• Roasted cauliflower, carrots and pumpkin

After having three kids I never believed I could look like this!

I still get a surprise when I catch sight of myself in a shop window - and my husband is super proud of me!

I now have the energy to keep up with my three boys who keep my busy running after them! But most of all I'm just happy to feel like me again.

My advice - just do it! I was amazed by how quick and relatively easy it was compared to everything else I'd tried.
