Reducing or eliminating starchy foods from your diet can feel a bit daunting at first — especially if foods like bread, rice, pasta, and potatoes have been everyday staples.

The good news is that once you learn a few simple swaps, it actually becomes surprisingly easy. The key is not trying to change everything at once. Start with one or two swaps, and build from there.

Here are some simple alternatives to common starchy foods:

🥖 Bread
• Harvest Pantry breads and pizza base mixes

• Egg-based wraps
• Cloud bread (made with beaten egg whites and cream cheese – Google the recipe)
• Low-carb breads used sparingly

🥨 Crackers
• Cucumber slices
• Seed crackers
• Harvest Pantry cracker mixes - see link above
• Toasted seed breads

🍚 Rice
• Cauliflower rice
• Konjac rice
• Cold cooked rice (once cooked rice has cooled, about ⅓ of the starch becomes resistant starch, making it slower to digest).
Great in veggie & rice salads or fried rice.

🍝 Pasta
• Spiralised veggies like courgettes or carrots
• Thinly sliced cabbage
• Konjac noodles

🥔 Potatoes
• Mashed cauliflower, pumpkin or swede
• Roasted Mediterranean vegetables
• Roasted cauliflower, carrots and pumpkin

🍟 Chippies
• Veggie sticks for dipping
• Baked cheese slices (see a recent post for recipe)
• Kale chips (oiled, salted and baked kale leaves)

Small changes like these can help reduce blood sugar spikes and keep energy levels more stable throughout the day.

What a transformation!

Here's what Olga's noticed after losing almost 15 kilos

* No back problems recently
* I'm not stressed or anxious anymore - especially over little things
* I'm not experiencing any menopause symptoms
* I don't snore anymore and I sleep better than before
* Food cravings are almost non existent
* My energy is much better - I used to get tired easily but not now :-)
* I'm no longer pre-diabetic! Yay!

"Previously my cardio-vascular risk was high (above 30%), but since embarking on the Miraculoss programme, my health has improved so much that it's fallen to an all time low of 5% , which is regarded as low risk.

Yesterday I posted about The Calorie Myth.

But What About Exercise?

The ‘experts’ have told us that not only are we gluttons, and we should eat less, we’re also lazy and if we’d just "get off the couch and move more" we would lose weight.

There are many health benefits to be gained through exercising, but weight loss is not often one of them.

When you're exercising, your appetite naturally increases to compensate for any energy you have burnt. This makes it very hard to lose weight. How do you explain the gyms that are full of people all sweating it out but still struggling with their weight?

Clearly there is something else at work here. Yes, you guessed it, hormones - or to be precise, insulin. Excess insulin makes you fat, not excess calories. It's impossible to store body fat without insulin, no matter how much you eat!
