WHAT IS IT AND HOW CAN IT HELP ME AND MY HORSE ? π΄
For 50+ years now, I have experienced and worked with extra- ordinary Equine reactions and behaviors that, on the surface, make no sense.
By that, I mean simply when the horse consistently does the opposite of what is being asked.
The more you squeeze your horse to go, the more he stops!
You lead them forward. They go backward!
Ask them to lift their hoof. They stand on it more.
These types of backward responses to pressure make no sense .
Even more so if it's a sudden reaction or change of behavior.
" MY HORSE IS NOT SENSIBLE"
Such behaviors are often explained as the horse has decided to become stubborn, lazy, or difficult, something that the horse is actually not capable of creating by itself.
It's the human way to try to understand or explain what they can't .
These responses are involuntary and not intentional by the horse.
Your horse now feels that YOU make them do the opposite, then become annoyed by it !
THAT WILL MAKE NO SENSE TO YOUR HORSE !
Confusion sets in for both horses and riders.
We all have expectations of normal pressure responses - applying pressure to create movement and releasing pressure to reward movement and are totally reliant on normal biomechanical functions and responses for this.
In fact, all training methods and practices are.
Normal function allows normal reaction.
But what if there is no normal function?
It now creates abnormal reactions.
And if so, how do we know what and how do we restore it?
20 years ago, I discovered all the answers and reasons why , through experiencing Equine ConTact C.A.R.E
Most body workers should understand that structure governs function.
But ConTact C.A.R.E understands Flinchlock governs structure !
In horses, it is particularly obvious that Flinchlock reverses the state of the bone.
Instead of the bone moving away from pressure to provide comfort, when Flinchlocked the bone, it now moves into pressure to provide comfort.
Opposite becomes the new normal.
" WHEN THE BONE WON'T CARRY THE MOVEMENT... THE MOVEMENT MUST CARRY THE BONE..."
Pressure on pressure now shuts down movement instead of creates it.
So what is not Flinchlocked (movable) now has to work around what is (immovable) to retain what is now compromised balance and function .
It's nature's way of using balance ( or, in this case, im-balance) as a primary self-defense tool.

So what is a Flinchlock? And how does a horse become Flinchlocked?
ConTact C.A.R.E accepts bones can absorb and hold pressure when they experience surprise environmental impacts.
The hit they don't see coming.
The bone does not have the opportunity to defend itself until after the hit, creating Skeletal Sensory Shock within the impacted bone.
The shape and balance of the structure at point of impact becomes the new normal functional shape and balance.
An example of this is a surprise kick in the ribs by a paddock mate with the horses head held high now demands the head be held high to move when the girth is around the impacted rib.
The horse can not now move freely with its head down without it, causing pain and discomfort while saddled.
A high head carriage is now more comfortable than what we see as a normal or lower one.
So insisting on this horse going on the bit or with a lower head carriage means they become less responsive to the leg and lack forward impulsion as a result.
Another would be an impact skidding into a gateway and hitting the chest on the gate.
This will now cause the tail and hind legs to become clamped underneath and hard to move when the chest is pressured by , for instance , heavy breathing and cause the horse to seem unfit because he runs out of puff despite having plenty of exercise .
"THE BODY WILL TAKE THE EASY LIFE OPTION EVERYTIME "
As for what is Flinchlocked and how it is affecting normal function , all the answers are held in the horses structural reactions to pressure.
I can feel where your horses pressure is held .
In 50 + years of starting , training, and competing horses, I felt this every day on thousands of different horses over the years.
Their reactions to my hands through ConTact C.A.R.E now tell me the WHERE WHAT and HOW ;
*WHERE is the comfort shape
* WHERE the pressure is held within that comfort shape
*WHAT is the angle and direction of pressure from the original impact.
* WHAT is the amount of pressure needed to normal balance
*WHAT was the probable cause
*HOW the horse may react and why
*HOW to gently release it
*HOW different pressures and movement react from jaw pressure all the way to their feet and where the workload is overcompensating in between all while being held in the riders' hands.

This is how I change what makes no sense back to what we understand as sensible behavior, reaction, and understanding between horse and rider.
