Kapiti Hot Yoga, home of the original 26+2 hot yoga series

Kapiti Hot Yoga, home of the original 26+2 hot yoga series Welcome to Kapiti Hot Yoga, we teach the original 26+2 hot yoga sequence, commonly known as Bikram Yoga. Heat + Yoga, how it works.

The sequence is made up of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises and is practiced in a heated room. When the body is warm, muscles, fascia, and connective tissue are more elastic allowing for greater flexibility and less chance of injury. Combine this with the intelligent sequence of poses that safely stretches & strengthens muscles, ligaments, and joints, and you have the perfect system of exerc

ise to bring back natural range of motion to bodies. The sequence is made up of beginner's poses and is suitable for all abilities. Our goal is to teach students to take each pose step by step. Step one, learning to engage the right muscles and align the body. Step two, learning to breathe and still the mind once in the pose. And, step three, finding your depth, both physically and mentally. Students are led through the sequence by a set of detailed instructions designed to guide them in and out of poses safely. All classes are the same; same poses, same breathing exercises, same instructions - so you know exactly what to expect.

πŸ”¬ THE SCIENCE OF SOUND BOWL MEDITATION 🎢

Curious how lying still and listening to sound can create real change in your body and mind? Sound bowl meditation β€” also known as a sound bath β€” is more than just relaxing. Here’s what science is beginning to show:

🧠 Alters brainwave activity
The tones from singing bowls can shift the brain into alpha and theta states β€” the same states associated with deep meditation, creativity, and mental clarity.

πŸ’€ Supports the parasympathetic nervous system
Sound frequencies help deactivate the stress response and activate the "rest and digest" mode, lowering heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol levels.

πŸ“‰ Reduces anxiety and tension
Studies have shown that participants in sound-based meditations report significant reductions in tension, anger, and fatigue after just one session.

πŸ’“ Regulates heart rate variability (HRV)
A higher HRV is linked to better emotional regulation and overall resilience. Sound meditations may help improve this important biomarker.

🧬 Enhances cellular resonance
Vibrational sound may help stimulate cells and tissues, promoting a subtle form of somatic healing and release of muscular and energetic tension.

Sound bowl meditation isn’t just a spiritual practice β€” it’s a neuro-sensory experience that helps your brain and body recalibrate from overstimulation. If you're feeling mentally overloaded, emotionally tense, or just curious β€” this is a gentle, evidence-based way to reset.

πŸ”₯ WHY HOT YOGA?
26 Postures. 2 Breathing Exercises. 90 Minutes. One Powerful Practice.

If you’ve been curious about 26+2 Hot Yoga (aka Bikram Yoga), here’s what makes it such a transformative practice β€” and why so many people keep coming back to the hot room:

πŸ’§ Detox through sweat – Practicing in a heated room (around 40Β°C) helps you sweat deeply, flushing out toxins and improving skin health.

🧠 Mental clarity + focus – The structure of the sequence builds mental discipline. Over time, you'll notice stronger focus, sharper thinking, and a calmer mind.

πŸ’ͺ Strength + flexibility – The 26-posture series works every single part of the body β€” muscles, joints, organs, and glands. You’ll stretch and strengthen in balance.

🩺 Therapeutic benefits – Designed to support spinal health, circulation, and joint mobility, Bikram Yoga can be a powerful complement to managing chronic pain or injury recovery (with modifications as needed).

πŸ«€ Cardiovascular boost – Holding the postures in the heat builds endurance and raises your heart rate safely, like low-impact cardio.

πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Consistency = growth – The sequence never changes. As your body adapts, you get to track your progress over time β€” mentally and physically.

Whether you're seeking better sleep, deeper patience, injury recovery, or just a solid sweat β€” this practice meets you where you are.

Come and experience it for yourself.

WHY TRY A SOUND BOWL MEDITATION? ✨

In our fast-paced world, finding a moment of stillness can sometimes feel impossible β€” but that's exactly where sound bowl meditation comes in. Using ancient instruments like Himalayan Singing Bowls, Gongs and percussion instruments, this practice helps quiet the mind, soothe the nervous system, and restore inner balance.

Here are just a few of the benefits:

πŸŒ€ Deep relaxation – The harmonic vibrations gently guide your brain into slower brainwave states, helping you feel grounded and at peace.
πŸ’€ Improved sleep – Many people report better, more restful sleep after a session.
πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Reduced stress + anxiety – The sound frequencies can calm the mind and shift you out of "fight or flight" mode.
πŸͺ· Energetic realignment – Each bowl is tuned to specific frequencies that may support the balance of your energy centres (chakras).
πŸ’“ Emotional release – The resonance can stir up stuck emotions and gently move them out of the body.

You don’t need any experience β€” just lie down, breathe, and receive. πŸ’« Come with an open heart and leave feeling lighter, clearer, relaxed and more connected.

🎢 Join us for our next Sound Bowl Meditation on Friday 8th August with Samuel McMillan and feel the shift for yourself. Your nervous system will thank you. πŸ™

IMPROVED BONE DENSITY -
JUST ONE OF THE BENEFITS OF PRACTICING HOT YOGA

Bone density naturally decreases as people age. For example, those who go through menopause lose up to 50 percent of their bone mass, about half of which is lost during the first 10 years after menopause begins.

Over a 5-year period, premenopausal people who practiced 26+2 Hot Yoga had increased bone density in their hips, lower back, and neck, according to a May 2014 study in Scientific Research. The study concluded that a heated environment reduced the effects of osteoporosis for women by improving circulation, respiration, and perspiration.

Our Story

Welcome to Kapiti Hot Yoga, we teach the original Hot Yoga series, 26+2 - made popular by Bikram Yoga. Made up of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises, the therapeutic hatha yoga sequence is suitable for all ages and abilities. Each posture stretches and strengthens specific muscles, ligaments and joints to give you a full body workout. Additionally, the sequence systematically moves freshly oxygenated blood throughout your body, stimulating the organs, glands and nerves, restoring all systems to a healthier working order and giving you a greater sense of well-being. Practised in a hot room, the heat is designed to warm up your body, providing a safer environment in which to perform the postures and stretch your body. The combined heat and humidity also promotes sweating which in turn flushes toxins from your body. In addition, the series of postures combine skills of concentration, patience, determination and self-control that increase mental clarity and reduce stress If like me, you enjoy a yoga practice that not only gives your body a full workout but your mind as well you will love the 26&2 series. Email me today at kapitihotyoga@gmail.com for more info, or to find out where the 26+2 hot yoga series is currently offered.
