This is beautiful Phoebe 💕 She first visited us in December last year for her left TPLO surgery, and then returned in January for her right TPLO. Throughout it all, she was such a brave little girl, and it was an absolute pleasure having her in the clinic — she completely stole our hearts.

Here she is, looking as lovely as ever and showing off her gorgeous pink harness ✨

🐶✨ What is JPS Surgery? ✨🐶
Juvenile P***c Symphysiodesis (JPS) is a preventative surgery performed in young puppies to help reduce the severity of future hip dysplasia. 🦴💙

🩺 Diagnosis
Young dogs first require a hip assessment (Ortolani test and usually PennHIP X-rays) under sedation. PennHIP results take around a week to arrive. If mild or moderate HD is diagnosed, JPS is recommended. The day procedure is performed under general and local anaesthesia through a 3-5cm incision in the dog’s groin. JPS adjusts the natural growth of the pelvis.

✅ Recovery
Most pets experience very little discomfort with the procedure, keeping them calm and quiet for the necessary 10 days after surgery is often the biggest challenge! Complications are rare but include bruising, infection and loss of stitches. Over the following month, the rest of the pelvis continues growing normally, but the closed p***s growth plate results in deepening of the hip sockets.

Meet Franklyn 🐾

This handsome wee pup visited us after suddenly crying out while running and turning, becoming acutely lame on his right hind.

Pre-op radiographs revealed a tibial tuberosity avulsion fracture, which Dr Andrew Worth repaired using a 2mm pin placed in the tibial tuberosity, along with two 1.5mm K-wires placed from proximal to distal in the plateau as cross pins.

Intra-op imaging confirmed accurate implant placement, so the K-wires were bent, and a 19G tension band wire was placed around the 2mm pin to complete the construct 🦴

Franklyn recovered smoothly post-surgery, resting comfortably with his favourite toy from home by his side 🥰

Meet Betsy

Betsy was referred to us by the wonderful team at Island Bay Vet Clinic .

Sweet Betsy developed lameness in her left hind leg. After physio and further imaging, she was diagnosed with a ruptured cruciate ligament (left knee).
The plan for Betsy was to undergo TPLO surgery, which gives her the best chance at getting back to a more comfortable, active life. Betsy continued her physio post op with the lovely Lauren at Mend Veterinary Rehabilitation

She’s back to her happy, resilient self now, and we’re so proud of her 🐶💕

Big brave vibes for our sweet Tazzy 🐾

Tazzy came in to see us with a right femoral neck fracture, and we’re so happy to share that surgery went beautifully! ✨ Our amazing team worked their magic, and Tazzy handled everything like an absolute champ 🐶💪

We’re so proud of this little superstar and we have seen Tazzy for his post op check's and he's doing really well.

Sending Tazzy lots of love from all of us.

Meet Alpha 😄🐾 — that smiley face says it all!

Alpha was referred to us by the lovely team at Valley Cottage Vets after being diagnosed with a rupture of his left cranial cruciate ligament.

Dr Yvonne performed a TPLO to repair a cruciate ligament rupture and address a medial meniscus tear, stabilising the stifle with a 3.5 mm locking plate.

We’re happy to report Alpha had a smooth recovery! 📸 His post-op X-rays show excellent alignment and implant placement — a great result all round 💙🐶
