The Truth About Tight Calves

You know that moment when you hop out of bed and your calves feel like they’ve been swapped for two solid bricks? 🪨Yeah… running does that.

Here’s why:
Every time we run, our calf muscles (gastrocnemius + soleus) contract thousands of times to push us forward. This repeated load causes micro-tears in the muscle fibres and tightening of the fascia — the thin sheath around your muscles. Over time, blood flow in the area can get a bit restricted, waste products (like lactic acid) build up, and hello stiffness.

Massage works like a maintenance crew for your calves:
✅ Increases blood circulation → bringing oxygen + nutrients to speed up repair
✅ Flushes out metabolic waste → reducing post-run heaviness
✅ Releases fascial restrictions → restoring normal muscle length
