What is your connection with nature?

Do you think there is a risk of "extinction of experience" of the natural world?

Last year I was selected to present (on encouraging designers to explore their personal connection with nature) at a (virtual) Italian conference. Those who joined my presentation were mainly involved in urban design, interior design as well as architects, engineers and town planners.

Professor Richardson was also one of the presenters at that Italian Conference.

Curious about underwater forests…

In The Neighbourhood - tonight at 5pm...

Amy chats with Dr Nicole Miller from Explore Your Coast about the short documentary, Seaweed - A Love Story.

The doc highlights Nicole's amazing work around Wellington Harbour, including her 70km dive around the coastline to assess the health of seaweed and giant kelp forests.

Nicole also has an exhibition coming up at Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne Ecosanctuary, 'Underwater Forests of Wellington', where she is displaying some of her beautiful photos and art pieces. These pieces are also for sale and all proceeds go back to Explore Your Coast!

For all the info on upcoming documentary screenings, exhibitions, and conservation talks, go to: https://exploreyourcoast.co.nz/events/

Listen in tonight on Wellington Access Radio 106.1FM or stream via www.accessradio.org.nz

Last June (2024) I reached out to Dr Nicole Miller, to Explore our Coast. It was Nov., before we finally met and another two months before her underwater photos appeared as ‘Art on the Track’ in January.

We recently caught up over a seaweed beer in Wellington to celebrate her seaweed documentary.

We are all interconnected!

We Are All Interconnected
No life exists in isolation.
What we do to the earth, to animals, to strangers—we do to ourselves.
The breath you take is the breath of trees.
Kindness is not extra.
It’s essential.

You never know who you will meet on the track or in town....

You never know who you might meet at the Marlborough Art Society!
Visitors to the current 50 year Splash National Watercolour Exhibition last week might have seen the enchanting Marlborough Mermaid pop-up for Earth Day; she was searching for land and sea forests. The mermaid was first spotted over the summer when orcas, dolphins and art popped up in the Marlborough Sounds. She has since popped up across the Top of the South searching for seaweed forests.
To learn more watch the 2 min. video A Tale of Two Forests (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxT0K-t4pkw) which was motivated by this TED Talk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_359IrhUt5I).
Who knows where or when the Marlborough Mermaid will next pop-up? Meanwhile, keep an eye open for a variety of Marine Biodiversity-related events and movies happening across Marlborough in May.
