Last week we had so much fun celebrating Chinese New Year. Our tamariki and kaiako made dumplings and firecrackers together. They also created dragon paintings on paper plates and drew horses for the Year of the Horse. Through these hands-on activities, the children connected to a wider community, experienced a different culture, and enjoyed tasting new foods together. 🇨🇳

Today our children had a wonderful time exploring a range of natural materials creating beautiful heart-shaped artwork for our amazing local cafe Mountain Folk Cafe Retreat! We cannot wait to go down to the cafe to display the artwork 🩷🌺
This experience encouraged creativity, sensory exploration, problem solving and fine motor development, while allowing the children to express care and connection through their creations. ❤️

Yesterday our tamariki had the opportunity to explore and connect with our natural world.

We began by picking flowers and feeding bread to our chickens before setting off to explore and climb a mound of dirt.

Our chickens eagerly joined us on our walk, turning the experience into an interactive adventure, strengthening our connection with the living world that surrounds us here at Mountaineers.

Excitement filled the air when one of our tamariki discovered an egg that had been laid amongst the rocks.

We ended our exploration by observing our bees busily at work, reminding us of the important role they play in our environment. 🐝🐓

The tamariki had a blast with a colour matching activity where they used tongs to pick up fluffy pom poms and sort them onto the matching colours. It was a fantastic way to practice their fine motor skills, colour recognition and turn taking skills. 🟣🟢🟡🔴
