ADHD Assessments & Medication – What You Need to Know 🩺
From 1 February, our General Practitioners and Nurse Practitioners are able to start medical treatment for adults aged 18 and over who have a confirmed ADHD diagnosis. If you think you may have ADHD, here’s how the process works:
🔵 BOOK A GP APPOINTMENT
Book an appointment with your usual GP to discuss your concerns.
🔹 A standard consultation fee applies.
🔹 Your clinician will talk through your symptoms and decide whether an ADHD assessment is appropriate.
🔹 If needed, you will be referred to a diagnostic provider.
ADHD Assessment Provider
Our preferred provider is Te Wheke.
You may also self-refer via their website: www.tewheke.org.nz
Please note:
🔹Diagnostic providers set their own fees.
🔹Costs will be discussed with you when booking.
🔵 STARTING ADHD MEDICATION
If your diagnosis is confirmed, our team will contact you to arrange an ADHD Medication Start appointment.
🔹 This appointment is not funded and costs $300.
🔹An ECG ($82) is required before starting medication.
🔵 FOLLOW-UP CARE
After starting medication, you’ll need to see your usual GP within 2–4 weeks for a standard consultation to review how the treatment is going.
