Morning in the life of me trying to be a present SAHM and run Holistically You. itโ€™s a pretty hard balancing act iโ€™m not going to lie. Trying to not always be โ€˜onโ€™ for work and then trying to not neglect my work either.. I am doing my best! If you are like me and you had no time to fit in meal prep this weekend, here are some wholefood snack ideas in under 5 mins for you and the kids that are balanced + yum.
- berries, yoghurt & honey
- apple w almond butter
- carrots & hummus or carrot salad (coconut oil & acv)
- cheese & fruit
- smoothie (w Nurture blend for added goodness)
- scrambled eggs w cheese
- dates w butter
- honey + butter on sourdough ๐Ÿคค๐Ÿคค

And any of these combos mixed together.

Trying to pair fruits with some sort of protein & fats to support blood sugar levels is ideal. But honestly an apple, a banana, a bit of cheese, a glass of milk, some cucumber, anything goes and your children may surprise you with what they eat!
I also try putting heaps of different foods platter style and let them go for it โœจ

I said it. Your kids health should be priority in every season & especially the silly season when they are out of routine, have way more sugar than usual and wanting chocolate every morning for breakfast ๐Ÿ˜‚ Cute kids clothes is a bonus BUT remember we have a duty as parents to look after their health too ๐Ÿฅฐ

Here are some ways you can support their health:

1. Try limit screen time when you can, especially first thing in morning and going to bed. itโ€™s summer! Get them outside in the sun and fresh air, barefoot if possible!
2. Add healthy proteins and fats to their meals (think greek yohurt, collagen, butter, meats) to help steady blood sugar levels and avoid those crashes
3. Set them up with a decent breakfast - eggs are my go to but you can do oats with butter & berries or smoothies!
4. Take healthy snacks with you and offer to kids before they get hangry. (Fruit, seaweed, biltong, cold sausages, dates w butter, cheese)
5. Take water bottles with them everywhere and keep them hydrated. Sugar cravings can hit hard when you are dehydrated
6. Supplement with cod liver oil, Nurture blend, real vitamin C to help keep nutrient levels high
7. Take it easy on them! We may want to give them the โ€˜bestโ€™ holiday season but if we are stressing them out by planning too many activities and not letting them have time to REST then we are doing them a disservice.

Is your collagen certified bovaer feed free? If not, I would be enquiring with the company you purchase from. Bovaer feed is an artificial feed that they add to cows feed to reduce methane production. They say itโ€™s safe and effective, but is it? When you add in supplements to your diet, they should be of the highest quality. If itโ€™s not, whats the point in taking it? Everything the animal consumes WILL come into your body. Here at Holistically You we dont take risks like that and never will.
