On World Traditional Medicine Day (October 22, 2025), the TCIH Coalition has issued a new press release warning that the wisdom of traditional medicine, a potential source of many future cures, is at risk of being lost unless the world acts now.
Released shortly after the 3rd TCIM Congress in Rio de Janeiro, the statement calls for urgent global action ahead of COP30 to increase investment in research on traditional knowledge and practices, recognising them as a vital bridge between human and planetary health.
Although traditional healthcare is relied upon by one in three people worldwide, it receives less than 1% of global health research funding. This imbalance threatens not only the preservation of ancestral knowledge but also the discovery of tomorrow’s medicines.
“We need a bold leap in research funding and focus to match the reality, or both our human and planetary health are at risk,” said Dr. Tido von Schoen-Angerer, President of the TCIH Coalition.
