Frosty temperature invigorates Body, Mind and Spirit

Have daffodils and some trees get their bio-clock mixed up? Spring flowers are starting to emerge and you would have thought that spring is already here. But not yet. A low 3C with light coating of white frost greeted 69 participants, volunteers and barkies to the Aug 23 edition of Ara Harakeke parkrun. The real feel would be close to Big Fat zero! One thing for sure is that Summer is most definitely not far away.

Yes, it was not only cold, it was dry without either northerlies or southerlies, ie. neitherlies. This would be a perfect condition for snatching new PBs. Yes, it seemed to be the case as 14 out of 69 scored new PBs. Congratulations to Matt Wood, Zach Beamsley, Blair Cornelius, Soren Hodgson, Stephen Glassey, Grant Taylor, Sarah Korck, Anand Ghyar, Parisa F, Richard Wales, Rob Penhey, Siobhan Wort, Tia Ikin and Kirsten Blyde for their fine achievements.

Eirik OIJORDSBAKKEN, our run director and 9 vollies, including Sue CUTHBERTSON, Nick FAIRBAIRN, Glenn HODGSON, Chris KIRK-BURNNAND, Noah MOORES, Kathryn OIJORDSBAKKEN, Murray PENNO, Ian PRINGLE, Hayley REIDY, Alex WRIGHT got the proceedings going. These volunteers were simply awesome as they not only shiver in the cold, their warm smiles welcomed all participants on the parkrunday. Parkrun is run by volunteers, and we simply won't have any parkrun event anywhere.

We extended our warm welcome to two newbies: Mark Burrows and Janelle Burrows.

Noah Moores (m) 18m 17s and Neve Hermann (f) 21m28s brought home the respective gender first finishers. Perhaps they had to run harder not only to stay in front, but also to keep warm.

Do you know that you can volunteer at parkrun events without running or walking the 5km course. The importance of volunteers at parkrunday cannot be overstated and in fact, they are essential. So, come to Ara Harakeke parkrun to invigorate your body, mind and spirit by volunteering, running or walking. Otherwise, your canine friends will take you there because they love parkrunday too!
