So incredibly proud of all the athletes and especially of our Otago team. Watching every athlete step outside their comfort zone, push themselves, and have so much fun while doing it was something really special. That’s what it’s all about 🙌

A huge thank you to the Halberg Foundation for putting on such an amazing event and creating opportunities like this for our athletes to shine ✨

And to the Hugo Foundation — thank you for making it possible for our families to get up to Auckland. Your support means everything and helped make this experience one to remember ❤️

Archery NZ Coach of the Year: Garry Porter

Archery New Zealand congratulates Garry Porter of Dunedin Archery Club as the 2026 Coach of the Year.

Garry has given over 30 years of dedicated service to archery, with his contribution over the past year being particularly significant. As coordinator of beginner coaching at Dunedin Archery Club, Garry introduced 57 new archers to the sport in the last twelve months, creating inclusive and well-supported pathways that have led many into ongoing club membership.

Garry is widely respected for his patience, kindness, and leadership. This has been especially evident in his work with para-archer Paul Wallace. Beginning with limited direct experience in para-archery, Garry committed hundreds of hours to learning, adapting equipment, researching international practice, and providing individualised coaching. Under his guidance, Paul became a classified para-archer at the Neroli Fairhall tournament in 2025 and competed in six tournaments during the year.

Garry’s leadership is defined by humility, inclusivity, and a genuine commitment to removing barriers to participation. His impact has been felt not only by individual athletes but across the wider archery and coaching community.

Congratulations, Garry Porter, on this well-deserved recognition.

Thinking about trying a new sport?
We’ve got weekly sessions running in Dunedin:
• Wheelchair rugby — Tuesdays, 5:30–7pm
• Boccia — Wednesdays, 5:30–7pm
• Wheelchair basketball — most Sundays, 3–4pm
• Table tennis — Sundays, 10am–12pm
Sessions range from giving it a go right through to competitive, with a supportive crew and plenty of laughs along the way. New faces are always welcome 😊

We are hoping to go sailing this coming Saturday.

PS Weather gods are with us-forecast is less then 10kn wind, increasing in the afternoon at 4pm to 12knots, gusting up to 13kn. Steady NE wind.
