We are still seeing a number of people presenting with gastro symptoms who are unaware of the boil water notices in the region. Please see details below about the current boil water notices in place.
UPDATE MONDAY 21 July: The boil water notice has now been lifted for the Tapawera water supply.
The quality of the source water has fully recovered, and the treatment plant has returned to normal operating conditions. No bacteria were found in any of the treated water samples collected at the plant and within the network.
This means that the residents and businesses connected to the water supply no longer need to boil water before consumption.

Let's talk drinking water! First of all, a reminder that if you have a private bore, anywhere in the District, it is recommended that you boil your water following the recent flooding.
Shallow bores in any location can be contaminated from surface water, but especially when there has been heavy rain and groundwater levels rise to be much closer to the surface than normal.
This recommendation will be in place for a while yet, but exactly how long for is difficult to say. We would refer you to the Health NZ guidance - https://rebrand.ly/b0862a.
If you want to test your water for bacterial contamination, check out this page for laboratory information: https://rebrand.ly/38fa23.
What about everyone on a Council water supply? For the majority, there are no issues with your drinking water and you don't need to boil it. However there are a few townships with boil water notices in place.
A reminder that we have permanent boil water notices in place for Dovedale, Eighty Eight Valley and Redwoods 1 and 2.
There are now no temporary boil water notices in place.
The issues affecting the Dovedale water treatment plant have been resolved, and the water is gradually making its way into the Dovedale network.
