โœจ What a wonderful way to wrap up World Reflexology Week! โœจ
This week has been full of treatments in my practice, and today was the perfect finish โ€” joining together with the amazing reflexologists from the Southern Reflexology Group for our Expo. ๐Ÿ’›
From 11am till 4pm we were non-stop with:
๐ŸŒฟ Relaxing treatments
๐ŸŽค Three inspiring presentations
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Beautiful stalls with goodies
๐ŸŽ Excited winners of hampers and spot prizes
I loved having a great audience for my demonstration of a simple routine that attendees can share with family and friends. The questions, conversations, and positive feedback were just wonderful. ๐Ÿ™Œ
Providing hand reflexology treatments gave me the chance to connect with so many lovely souls, while also teaching more about how reflexology supports relaxation, balance, and well-being. ๐ŸŒฑ

Today is World Alzheimerโ€™s Day ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ
To families and carers โ€” we see you. Caring for someone with dementia is loving work, and it can also be hard ๐Ÿ’ž. In my practice and at rest homes I offer gentle reflexology ๐Ÿ‘ฃ thatโ€™s positively received by those with dementia โ€” a calming, grounding form of non-verbal communication when words fail, helping people feel safe, soothed and connected ๐ŸŒฟโœจ.
Next week for World Reflexology Week we have a reflexology expo for you. ๐ŸŒ Iโ€™ll be giving a short talk and a demonstration of a simple, step-by-step relaxing routine you can use with your loved one (especially those with Alzheimerโ€™s or dementia).

It was an incredibly rewarding experience to share the benefits of hand and foot reflexology with both patients and staff. ๐Ÿ’› Patients welcomed a moment of calm amidst all that is going on and many shared their stories and health journeys with us โ€” a privilege we truly value. ๐ŸŒฟ Staff were also able to pause and recharge during their busy day.
We are so grateful to the hospital staff for being so accommodating, acknowledging the value of reflexology for patients, and making space and time for this to happen. ๐Ÿ™

This week has been a full and meaningful one ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŒผ
Today marks Daffodil Day in NZ, a cause very close to my heart. 1 in 3 New Zealanders are diagnosed with cancer, and like many of you, I have walked this path personally, as well as alongside friends, family and clients. Each year, I feel privileged to volunteer reflexology treatments with the Cancer Society, offering a gentle moment of relief during a very stressful time ๐ŸŒฟโœจ

In the lead up to today, Iโ€™ve been busy baking ๐Ÿง๐Ÿช for a fundraiser to support this incredible organisation โ€” every small act adds up to make a difference ๐Ÿ’›

Itโ€™s also been a week of learning and growth ๐ŸŒฑ Between supporting clients, I was fortunate to join workshops on sleep, fatigue & burnout, menopause and how it affects our brain, and foot mobilisation. Each offered powerful insights โ€” from the biology of whatโ€™s happening in our bodies, to new tools I can share to better support your well-being. ๐Ÿฆ‹

When I share this knowledge with clients, it empowers them to make better-informed choices for their health and what feels right for them. ๐ŸŒธ When we understand how our body works โ€” and why we are doing things to support it โ€” the changes we make can have a deeper and more lasting effect โœจ๐Ÿ’›

Iโ€™m grateful for the chance to keep expanding my toolkit, and to walk alongside you all in your journeys toward balance, health, and inner calm ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŒธ

I started my Saturday with the most peaceful and inspiring experience โ€” the Sunrise Soak at He Puna Taimoana in New Brighton. Thank you to the team there for creating such a beautiful space. As the sun rose over the ocean, I reflected on the quiet promise of a new day. โœจ

In the stillness, I was reminded that while we never truly know how each day will unfold, we can choose how we meet it โ€” with presence, intention, and openness to possibility. ๐ŸŒž

The weekend continued with the Southern Reflexology Group, where we shared laughter yoga with the wonderful Hannah Airey. Did you know that laughter is as powerful as a cardio workout, for boosting oxygen to the brain and body? It also releases serotonin and endorphins โ€” the bodyโ€™s natural feel-good hormones โ€” and connects us through joy. ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’“

I promised I would follow up with the insights I gained from the inspiring speakers at this wonderful event, each sharing practical, heartfelt insights into self-care, stress, and resilience. Here's a wee snippet (it was hard to keep this short as I could share about this all day):

๐ŸŒ€ Dave Wood reminded us that not all stress is bad โ€” itโ€™s necessary for all our body systems โ€“ to keep them strong and responsive. We need our stress response to assist us to take action but it's only sustainable when paired with adequate recovery. Without that balance, our systems stay in overdrive, and thatโ€™s when burnout or illness can creep in.
Stress + Recovery = Growth
๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Build in daily moments of purposeful calm in your calendar or diary after every activity like breathwork ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™‚๏ธ, gentle movement ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ, social connection ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿคโ€๐Ÿง‘, or reconnecting with nature ๐ŸŒฟ. Even five minutes before rushing to the next meeting or activity can be profound.

๐Ÿง  Dr Denise Quinlan made us think about where our daily attention is in our work โ€“ putting our quality focus into protecting things that matter and things we can control.
๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Schedule designated focus time ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ, cut out distractions โŒ๐Ÿ“ฑ, prioritise โœ… and factor in positive recovery time ๐Ÿง˜.
This will then allow us to have time and energy to build real connections with others ๐Ÿ’ž which grows collective resilience. When we focus on more compassion with others and less perfectionism we have genuine support.
๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œWe are all just walking each other home.โ€ โ€“ Ram Dass

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ I was intrigued to learn the philosophy behind Buddhist meditation with Susan Allen. It is a practice with a goal not just to relieve stress but to foster self-realisation. When we quiet the mind we find freedom from the things that bind us โ€“ the majority of our thoughts are repetitive and all about us.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Take five minutes now for your mind by anchoring into the body:
-Start by feeling your inhale, let go of the need to label it.
-Then feel your exhale and notice its natural rhythm.
-Finally become aware of how your whole body feels ๐Ÿง. Repeat this loop.
When your mind wanders, notice it without judgement and gently return to these three anchor points.
This simple practice, repeated over time, builds a deeper sense of calm ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ and connection to self by quietening the mind.
