I’ve been thinking a lot recently about the role of our physical and emotional body when it comes to overall health. Shockingly, I’ve met a fair few people now that take better care of their car or pet compared to their own self.

I wonder why this is?

Lack of education? People pleasing tendencies / putting yourself last? The classic “she’ll be right” attitude? Trauma? Cost of living? Fear of releasing that unhelpful limiting belief or habit and stepping into your full power? Fear of being seen in said power?

Disease starts well before your diagnosis. The health of your 20s will influence how mobile, healthy, or inflammation ridden your body is your 40s & beyond.

How you sleep, eat, the information and media you consume, the quality of your water, your ability to regulate your stress and emotions, your ability to find and maintain connections/relationships, how much love you have surrounding you, how you talk to yourself, your perseverance to overcome hard things, all matters.

We need to think ROOT CAUSE HEALING. A good question to ask yourself is “When did this start? What was I going through at that time in my life?”

Quite often, I hear stories from clients saying “they have never been right since”... Their grandma died, their parents split up, being bullied in primary school, lock down, moving to XYZ city, their first boyfriend cheating on them etc.

Your physical and emotional body cannot be separated ☯️

Just like you need to service your physical body with good nutrition, exercise, sleep, and rest, you need to service your mind and emotions.

You cannot work on one without the other 🌊

One of my favourite things about working 1:1 with clients is reframing and simplifying health for them. I have worked with clients that have had zero health education, clients who are health practitioners themselves, clients that follow wellness influences on TikTok, all the way to high performing athletes.

We are forever a student. There is always something new to learn about health!

I am all for people sharing online what has worked for them, other practitioners sharing evidence-based information.. at the end of the day we are all trying to help people live a better life.

But man. Where have we as a society gone wrong?

Why has health become so confusing for people?

You are not to blame.

Pharmaceutical companies funded nutrition studies.. and nutrition companies funded pharmaceutical companies...

What does this mean?

The resources and propaganda they have created - the food pyramid, star point system, calories in - calories out, low fat products, low calories products, demonising animal products.. were all made to poison us and increase our reliance on medication resulting in their pockets being filled 💰💰💰

Diabetes rates are soaring.
CVD is soaring.
We have a worldwide epidemic of obesity AND childhood obesity. Statistically, we are sicker than ever before.

Right now, we are seeing the fall out of the industrialisation period and wide spread commercialisation of food.
Also happening right now, is the technology boom (I like to call it the ‘convenience boom’) - it is now easier than ever to stay on the couch, order food from the said couch, and live a sedentary life.

You see your friends eating all the sugar, full cream, thick crust pizza bases and have no issues. No bloat. No gas. Nothing.
You have six safe foods, fear eating out, and hate being in public not knowing where the rest room is.

If this is you, here is what you need to consider 👇

👉were you a c section baby and not breastfeed?
These first moments provide us the first building blocks for our immune system and digestive health when we are born.

👉 long antibiotic, oral contraceptive pill, or accuntane history?
These harm beneficial gut bacteria and create dysbiosis and inflammation within the gut.

👉 recent concussion? Or long history of concussion?
New research has proven that a concussion can disrupt the motility receptors within the small intestine, contributing to more constipation.

👉 burping after eating your meals or not tolerating meat?
Your stomach acid may be low.
Quick stomach acid test -> add 1/4 tsp to a small glass of water. Set a timer and see how long it takes you burp! A time over 3 minutes can indicate low stomach acid.
Low stomach acid = poor breakdown of food = poor absorption of nutrients = deficiencies and poor energy.

👉 rock hard bloating after each meal?
Your gut lining is probably weak or your liver & gallbladder are sluggish.
Food is leaking into the cellular spaces and blood stream, activating the immune system -> new food sensitivities-> bloating and gut disturbances.

👉 cutting out food groups by yourself?
This is how you create food intolerances for yourself later down the line. Easiest way to explain: we have specific bacteria that break down specific food. Once we cut the food out -> bacteria die out due to their food being taken away. If you randomly consume a large amount of that food and don’t have that bacteria, then you’ll have sooome form of reaction.

👉 excessive gas + chronic bloating + random bowl pattern?
Your liver and gallbladder bladder need some love. Eat and drink your bitters! No they don’t taste good, but they are essential!
Try to have one serve at each meal, your options are: ACV, lemon, rocket, kale, broccoli, dill, raw cacao powder, dandelion greens or tea, coffee, dark chocolate, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, cranberries, kale, and cacao nibs.

Habits are the foundation to any successful endeavor, whether it’s health or business.

Creating a new habit DEMANDS that you become a different person.

Different = New.
New = Unsafe to the brain and nervous system. This is a hardwired response in our biology. It’s going to take time for this new way of acting to fully cement into your being. Give yourself some grace 🩷

In order to become said different person that engages in new habits, you have to set new standards for yourself. I see people miss this step!!
When you are challenged, these new standards are what you need to fall back on to keep you on track.

So how do we set new standards for our health?

1. Journal on WHY the new habit or change is important to you. Just wanting to ‘look fit’ isn’t strong enough. Go deeeper. Whenever I do this with a client it always comes back to a childhood trigger. Eg wanting to feel enough, not feel like a failure, feeling confident in their skin etc.
2. Clarify what your values are. Your actions should align with your values.
3. Identify the areas for improvement (just choose one area of your life initially, and then progress to one small change in three areas: work, relationships, body).
4. Develop a practical ritual to help you achieve the habit. There are so many apps now to support your habit tracking. app or the are great. OR a printed out sticker chart works great too!
5. Minimise your thinking time when it comes to the new habit and eliminate decision fatigue. Eg meal prepping, having your exercise gear laid out for the next morning, having the same morning or wind down routine.

The real glow up comes from setting new standards for yourself. Treating your body with respect. Not abandoning yourself and sabotaging yourself every time life throws a curve ball.

I say this with so much love, but at the end of the day, there is no supplement, person, insert ‘XYZ’ that can heal what self-neglect started.

Our vagus nerve directly innervates our gut. What does this mean? If your nervous system is jacked up, then you betcha, your whole enteric nervous system will be jacked up too.

The environment you’re eating in.
How fast you are eating.
Hating the people you’re eating with.
Hating the actual food on your plate.
Stressing about reacting to a food.

Maybe the reason you are struggling with your digestion is because you are struggling to digest life in its totality, not just food.
Whether that be change, media news, sudden loss of a loved one, or other people’s unsolicited advice and opinions.

So, maybe the reason those probiotics aren’t working, is because it’s not a gut bacteria issue.

One of the pillars of health is good nutrition. But to do this, you need the education on how to create meals that support your satiety, blood sugars, energy, and recovery.

This takes TIME to learn through trial and error and figure out what works for YOUR body.

New blog post is up! And what better timing heading into winter, where our immune system can become quite vulnerable.

This is a topic near and dear to my heart after dealing with Long COVID for most of 2024. Currently, I am still 'mopping up' some residual inflammation and symptoms after my November 2023 infection.

In this blog, I discuss why the term 'Long COVID' has been rejected by the medical community, the organ systems this virus attacks, what dictates the severity of your infection and recovery, and lastly, what I personally investigate in clinic if I suspect Long COVID or symptoms relating to a prior infection.

Research shows that most deaths from this virus were due to prior co-morbidities (CVD, diabetes, etc..) where the body was already under significant strain. The virus may not be deadly to a generally healthy person, but it is seriously not something you want to contract over and over and over again, especially if you are not working with a health professional to rebuild post-infection.

New blog post is up! This is a little different to my usual posts, and something I am so excited to share more with my community this year.
The more clinical experience I gain, the more I am convinced that until we master our subconscious mind AND energetic field, we will remain sick and stuck.
The automatic habits, looping negative thoughts, critical inner voice, and self limiting beliefs within your subconscious with inevitability affect your energy.
How you show up for yourself, the food and content you consume, the people you surround yourself with, will inevitability affect your energy, and will reinforce your subconscious patterns.

Nothing is in isolation 🙏🏽

To neglect addressing these in clinic with my clients is a disservice.

You HAVE to be willing to change and show up differently to get different results. Yes, it will be uncomfortable until the new habit/behaviour becomes familiar (and safe) to the brain. Your brain will try its hardest to keep you within the known, even if the behaviour/ habit isn’t supporting your wellbeing.
I think we all need a little nudge here and then, and to also have the right tools and practices to help us connect to those deeper layers.

My favourite part of creating a treatment plan is introducing these practices and witnessing clients connect to their body like never before. It is SO SO possible to require your brain, break your habits, and master your own mind 💕

I always get the best ideas when I'm exploring solo.
No people - aeroplane mode on - no distractions - nature whispering.

Your perseverance to overcome hard things, matters.

It's cool being able to provide quality supplementation and herbs to help support your symptoms and condition. But we need to think about what caused you to sit in my office in the first place. Take it allll the way back.
