Kiwi Communication SLT Private Speech, Language & Feeding Therapy: Face to face and Teletherapy

19/04/2026

For today’s Mondays for Change, we’re speaking up about how speech-language therapy is prevention. 🗣️💙

SLTs support people to communicate and swallow safely — at home, at school, and in residential care. Early intervention reduces avoidable distress, deterioration, and hospital admissions.

Investing in SLTs is investing in better health outcomes for all.

🧠💚 Brain Injury Awareness Month

This month, we recognise Brain Injury Awareness Month and stand alongside individuals, whānau, and communities affected by brain injury across Aotearoa.

Brain injury can impact communication, swallowing, cognition, and social connection — areas that speech-language therapists work in every day. Early support, collaborative care, and increased awareness can make a meaningful difference in recovery and participation.

Let’s take time this March to learn more, raise awareness, and acknowledge the experiences of those living with brain injury.

World Speech Day!

🗣️✨ World Speech Day

Today we celebrate the power of communication — to connect, to inspire, and to create change.

Communication shapes how we learn, build relationships, share ideas, and participate in our communities. Speech-language therapists work alongside individuals and whānau to support meaningful, accessible communication across the lifespan — including spoken, signed, written, and alternative forms of communication.

World Speech Day is a reminder of the impact communication can have — and the importance of ensuring everyone has the opportunity to express themselves and be understood.

⚖️ Today is World Day of Social Justice

Social justice means more than fairness — it means access, dignity, and the right to be understood.

For many people in Aotearoa New Zealand, barriers to communication limit participation in education, healthcare, employment, and community life. When communication needs are unmet, inequities deepen.

Speech-language therapists work alongside individuals, whānau, and communities to reduce these barriers — but real change requires systems that prioritise communication access for all.

👉 Communication is a social justice issue.
Every person deserves the support they need to express themselves, understand others, and fully participate in society.

🎗️ World Cancer Day

Today, we acknowledge and celebrate the strength, resilience, and courage of everyone affected by cancer. We are grateful for the whānau, carers, and health professionals who support people through every step of their journey.

Speech-language therapists often work with people living with head, neck, and other cancers, helping them stay connected, participate fully, and maintain quality of life — whether through managing changes in communication, swallowing, or daily participation.

On World Cancer Day, we stand alongside all those impacted, advocating for services that meet people’s needs and honour their dignity.

🧪✨ World Science Day reminds us that science shapes our world – including how we communicate!

As speech-language therapists, we use evidence-based research to support people with speech, language, and swallowing differences across Aotearoa. Every therapy session, tool, and strategy is grounded in science, helping individuals communicate and participate fully in their communities.

Science + speech = stronger communication for all. 💬💙

Everyone deserves to communicate!

Everyone deserves to communicate!

In celebration of AAC Awareness Month, we’re shining a light on the power of communication beyond words and encouraging everyone to learn more about how AAC can transform lives. Together, we can create a world where every voice is heard and valued.

Join us in celebrating the diversity of communication and advocating for accessible supports! 💙
