Super cool to be part of this special day opening the Kimi-akāu bridge on Sunday.
Back on Track sponsored a plank for this special bridge across the Shotover river. You may remember we had our plank challenge last year which was heaps of fun. Was awesome to see the finished project.

Here's the proof!

Hip and core exercises do help prevent running injuries. Our physios have loads of great ideas to address this, so please get in touch if you need a hand. Many of us aren't running as much through winter, so this is the perfect time to get some strengthening in.

I had a nasty case of Proximal Hamstring Tendinopathy (PHT). I was the fittest I've ever been so it was really frustrating to have to take a break

The Plank challenge was completed by our staff during June and was great fun. The idea was born after we sponsored a plank for the new suspension bridge being built by the trails trust.
We all have washboard abs now 😉

Our winner of a Small Planet voucher was Corrie! She showed awesome enthusiasm and dedication through the challenge. Well done!

Manipulation techniques

This is where practitioners apply a high velocity, low amplitude thrust to joints with the aim to get some more mobility from them. This often results in a 'click'. Manipulation can be great to get stubborn joints moving again and works well alongside a good exercise programme. These techniques aren’t for all patients and screening questions and pre assessment will need doing, in addition to consent gained prior to this these techniques being used.

We are lucky to have both Dougal and Jordan able to provide this technique in our Gorge Road clinic. Please get in touch if you would like to know if these techniques may be suitable for you or book in online and they can be discussed during a treatment session.

Many of our physios include acupuncture and dry needling in their treatment sessions. Here's some info to help you understand a bit more about it.

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Modern acupuncture is the merger of traditional acupuncture and a scientific understanding of the body. It is based on a knowledge of acupuncture’s traditional concepts and on the study of human anatomy and physiology. This is practiced with the use of needles inserted through a person's skin at specific points of the body called acupuncture points or trigger points. There are various disorders treated with the use of acupuncture and a method for treating pain and relief from discomfort.
THE ACUPUNCTURE PROCEDURE
The patient is usually lies down. The needles are inserted through the skin to various depths, depending on the strategic points. These needles are very thin so the patient will not feel pain, but only some mild discomfort. Once it reaches the correct path, the patient might feel some mild aching sensation. The acupuncturist may swirl the needles after placement. The needles will remain in place for around 1 to 10 minutes.
RISKS IN THE PROCEDURE
One may experience soreness or minor bleeding, numbness, tingling, or bruising on the parts where the needles were inserted. We use single-use, disposable needles in our practice so rest assured, risk of infection is down to the lowest minimal if none at all.
There are cases where nausea or drowsiness can occur; this is a good sign of the effects of the procedure. However, if symptoms worsen or continue after 2 days, please notify your physiotherapist. With this, we also do not advise driving after a procedure if you are affected.
BENEFITS
Acupuncture has been used effectively for hundreds of years for a variety of diseases. This has also been used for relieving stress, back and joint pains, headaches, eyestrain, it may improve your immune system, relief from allergy, among others. However, we cannot provide a guarantee for the outcome of any course of the treatment.
ACUPUNCTURE RESTRICTIONS
Not everyone is a good candidate for acupuncture. Please check with us and your physician before undergoing acupuncture.
