Sleep deprivation.... It can hinder your appetite, your food choice and your health - fast!

It's not exclusive to parenting

So many factors of our lifestyle these days impact the quality of our sleep

It's been a minute since I've been on here because I've been creating something new and in the process learning what it is like to be in my client's shoes 😉👇

What a journey it has been the last 9 months when it comes to weight gain, joint mobility, hormones, appetite and energy levels.

I never imagined creating a new life in my 40's and how different it would feel compared to last time in my early 30's

However it's highlighted some very key pieces of the health jigsaw when it comes to carrying extra weight on a frame that was not designed to carry nearly 90 odd kilos!

What I noticed most was the pain on my joints, the fatigue in my muscles and the oscillating energy levels.

Knowing it was temporary and par for the course to creating a baby after 40 years old - I ate intuitively as well as ensuring I met my daily nutrient targets for pregnancy.

Third trimester in your 40's is like preparing for an iron man competition but adding an extra 20-30 kg to your backpack then wearing it on your front!

It has been a great reminder how the foundation principles of what I have taught the last 17 years still are seamless in the results they provide and work so effectively for getting your health and body back in shape.

A reminder that the missing piece in the weight loss puzzle isn't necessarily what you do or how you think nor does it equate to energy in and energy out.

But.....is how well you hydrate your body through what you eat (as outlined in my first book - 'Wet Your Appetite' published back in 2017).

Two weeks ago today, I gave birth to a healthy baby girl at 1:33am on Friday 30th of January 2026.

Today I have lost all the fluid retention, inflammation and my body has healed faster than it did in my 30's and also have lost 10 kilos slowly each day (not straight after birth).

It wasn't by counting macros or calories, or doing anything extreme or following a meal plan but specifically modifying my meals so my body gets exactly what it needs to thrive nutritionally.

I have my energy back to pre pregnancy levels even with lack of sleep and my pelvic floor is stronger than it was 18 months ago.

This pregnancy has been eye opening when it comes to the hormones, health and the well-being of an over 40 year old body.

Accountability to get to your goal weight was never the issue.

However, trying to sustain perfection in your definition of being healthy will always derail you every time.

You already know how to eat healthy food and you do, yet you've given up trying to lose weight because no matter what you have already done it never seems to last.

There are a million approaches to having the healthy body you want but what is the point if it's not optimized for your nutritional needs and your lifestyle?

It's the years later when we have a conversation and you are still maintaining your results and love your body more than you did before we found each other as well as the energy you have for the life you choose to lead.

You no longer have a desire to seek quick fixes, require medication for your symptoms and it's the freedom it provides in how you get to nourish your body - your way.

The most common result across the board is how their body continues to change shape, they continue to release the weight that was impacting their health & confidence.

Eating seems to have become such a touchy subject but let's discuss why?

Whether you watch what you eat or eat based on what you feel like there is no 'right or wrong'

How you view food and whether it is

✅ eaten for fuel?
✅ eaten for health?
✅ eaten for energy?
✅ eaten to regain control?
✅ eaten for enjoyment?
✅ eaten based on previous programming?

It doesn't actually matter.

What matters is how you feel in your body and whether you function at your optimal level for how you like to live your life

If you're struggling with having enough energy, getting enough sleep, or even if your blood pressure is elevated or you have joint stiffness and feel like you're surviving rather than thriving

Then yes - what you eat contributes however it's not the full picture.

Controlling what you eat is not the answer.

Understanding where your food choice originates from is more powerful.

Then aligning what you enjoy with what your body needs.

Eating seasonally is common sense but how often do you actually know if you're meeting your daily nutritional requirements?

Some will argue that poor soil quality, food prices, processed food consumption and low nutrient sense food are the reason health rates have declined in the western world.

Yet, there are clients of mine that are increasing their energy, improving their health, losing weight in a healthy way and ending their health symptoms by eating all types of food - even the ones from a supermarket.

It's because firstly you need to focus on how well your body is hydrated through your food choice - even more so on hot days.

You can eat whatever you like but logically it needs balancing over a day if you want to ensure your body is getting what it needs.

This time of year is full of festive food, social eating, less meal prep and eating on the go!

Tis the season you could say.

However you don't need to eat blind and pick up the pieces in the new year.

When you know exactly how to balance what you enjoy eating at this time of year - you don't gain extra weight that you have to lose when you return to work after the holidays.
