Amy Dawson

Amy Dawson She is a strong advocate of the healing benefits of touch and believes massage can promote recovery, improve health and maximise wellbeing.

Amy’s experience both in massage and previously as a social worker has shown her the impact daily stresses can have on the body, both physically and emotionally. Amy has a specific interest in helping people to manage stress and bring balance into their lives. Becoming a Mind Body Eating Coach has been a natural progression to enhance her practice. Her own experience managing her health has shown

her the profound effect that the food we eat, how we move our body and what we think and believe has on our wellbeing. Building awareness of our body, how it feels and seeing each symptom we have as a significant message for change is key to improving health. Amy offers supportive, individualised care to address her client’s needs. Her approach is holistic and guided by her clients. Amy is also a certified Infant Massage Instructor and enjoys passing on the benefits of massage to parents. Touch is so important in early communication and development and can lay the foundation for a child’s ability to be resilient, manage stressful situations and form relationships as they grow. Amy has a Diploma in Therapeutic Massage from the New Zealand College of Massage. She is a Certified Infant Massage Instructor with the International Association of Infant Massage and a Certified Mind Body Eating Coach from the Institute of the Psychology of Eating.

2. Self care tip – eat chocolate!! Ideally over 70% dark chocolate. It’s rich in iron, magnesium and zinc and can help boost mood, reduce stress and improve focus by releasing endorphins, serotonin and dopamine. A no brainer! I keep an emergency supply in my bag. And not just for after meals. Chop it into oats, yoghurt or on top of banana on toast – yum 😊

Self care tip – get outside!!!

It's so nice to see the sun but even on those grey and windy days its important to get outside too. Getting out in nature does wonders for our well being and mental health.

Even just walking outside and putting our feet on the grass. This act of grounding immediately helps calm our nervous system and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

Self care daily practice

Have a good stretch!

Often we get tight and sore if we are stressed and busy. Stretching can release built up tension and tightness, increase blood flow and improve posture. All of which helps us to relax.

If we stop and stretch, it encourages us to take a moment and reset which can help improve focus and mood. Even just a couple of minutes makes all the difference................

Wow it’s December already! This time of year can be frazzling and stressful – it feels like there are so many things to do and we are on a countdown to the end of the year. Functions, kids’ shows, winding up work, as well as planning for Christmas and holidays.

Looking after ourselves often drops off the list as we say to ourselves we just need to make it through. But it’s the little things that count and doing some wee daily practices can help us manage the chaos and not completely crash come the New Year!

So, watch out for my December posts on simple ways to calm and balance our nervous systems…

Anyone else feel like the year is speeding away….? I honestly can’t believe its June tomorrow. Life’s a hard balance sometimes and when it feels like the to do list is never ending and there’s work and kids and house jobs we often put our self care on the back burner. But looking after ourselves is essential to keeping well and feeling like we can cope with what life throws at us. Remember the saying ‘we’ve got to put our oxygen masks on before we can help others’. So take the walk, stop and breathe, do the fun thing, look at the ocean – jump in it if you can!, eat the nutritious food, book that massage, ha 😉How do you prioritise yourself when things are overwhelming?
