At Simple Direct Funerals, we believe clarity matters. Our prices are clearly listed on our website, with no hidden fees or emotional upselling.

When someone passes away, knowing what paperwork needs to be done can feel overwhelming.
In New Zealand, every death must be officially registered — but many families aren’t sure where to start or what’s required. I’ve written a short guide explaining the process for Nelson and Tasman families, including who can register a death and how the Death Certificate works.

SDF had its first cathedral funeral. All up including cathedral costs, urn, service sheets and our usual services - the costs were still under $6k. My guess, the others would have started at $8k to $12k (maybe even more??)

At Simple Direct Funerals, we wanted urns that felt more personal than something ordered from a catalogue. So, we began making them ourselves — by hand, here in Nelson.

Our latest pieces:
🌳 Black Forest Urn – detailed with tree roots, branches, and wildlife, a design that reflects life’s cycles.
💚 Vivid Green Urn – bold, textured, and full of energy, standing out as something truly unique.

Each urn is crafted with care, designed to hold not just ashes, but meaning.

A while back I imported a stretcher that turned out to be the wrong fit for my needs. At first, I thought I’d just sell it on… but then it struck me: why not give it to someone who could really use it?

I’m very happy to have donated it to Motueka Regional Ambulance. These legends do an incredible job for our community, often on limited resources, and if this stretcher helps them in even a small way, then it’s gone exactly where it belongs.

Big thanks to the team for all the work you do keeping people safe and cared for in our region.

(📸 A couple of snaps of the ambulance crew and their vehicles with the stretcher that’s now in good hands!)
