Aotearoa New Zealand is at very high risk of a measles outbreak.
Measles spreads very quickly and can cause serious complications.
Please be aware of measles symptoms, including fever, cough, runny nose, sore/red eyes and rash.
If you have any of these symptoms and you are visiting the practice, you may be asked to please wait in your car.
Checking your Measles Immunity:
To be considered immune to measles, you will need to have had two “Measles, Mumps & Rubella” (MMR) vaccines at least one month apart. Everyone should check whether they have had 2 doses of the MMR vaccine.
There are a few different ways you can check someone’s immunisation status:
1. Check their Well Child or Plunket book.
2. View their immunisation history through our patient portal Myindici.
3. Through the Te Whatu Ora My Health Account: https://identity.health.nz/
If you know that you have had two MMR vaccinations, you do not need additional vaccines as an adult — you are fully protected.
If you are not immune:
If you have not had two MMR vaccines it is recommended you have 2 MMR vaccinations, 1 month apart. For adults over 18 years old, MMR vaccination is free if you are a New Zealand resident, or eligible for free healthcare.
If you are not immune and have been exposed to measles, MMR vaccination within 72 hours of exposure may provide protection and help limit the spread.
Getting vaccinated can help to protect yourself and your loved ones from catching and spreading measles.
