Update 8.30am Thu 22 Jan - There are no weather warnings in place for Rotorua today. Council contractors responded to a handful of weather-related callouts like blocked grates, fallen trees on Hamurana Road, Valley Road and Pukuatua Street. Continue to drive with caution as there may be debris on the roads. You can find out more about State Highway Road closures on our website rlc.net.nz/22JanWeather
A state of emergency lets the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management group act as quickly as possible and get the things we need to keep communities safe 👇
We have activated our Emergency Operations Centre and will continue to monitor the local situation, respond to any weather-related issues and provide support to the wider region 🌧️
This ‘local’ state of emergency covers the entire Bay of Plenty including Rotorua, but coastal areas are expected to get the worst of the weather. Because there are varying degrees of risk across the region, widespread declaration provides more certainty and allows Emergency Management teams to place resources where most needed 📍
We will keep you updated if there are any changes to this update concerning Rotorua, but in the meantime, continue to keep an eye on Bay of Plenty Civil Defence and MetService New Zealand for the latest changes to weather in our region
📞 If you need to report a weather-related issue in our district, if you need assistance, or if you feel unsafe, you can phone council on 07 348 4199 (24/7). If it is an emergency, phone 111
