Glen Valentine Midwife

Glen Valentine Midwife I am a community LMC midwife offering antenatal, labour and birth and postnatal care to women in the Rotorua district. Kia Ora!

Hey there and congratulations on your pregnancy! My name is Glen and I am a Registered Midwife working as a community Lead Maternity Carer based in Rotorua providing full antenatal, labour & birth and postnatal care up to 6 weeks. I am a father of 2 beautiful girls and have a strong family focus which is the base of my midwifery philosophy. I see pregnancy and childbirth as a normal physiological

life event which is inherently linked with whanau/family and will support their involvement in your journey as much as you desire. I am committed to supporting women to make the choices that are right for them so they have the experience they want. Yours and your baby's emotional and physical health and well-being is important to me so I have no problem consulting with other health professionals if needed to ensure a safe outcome for both. I take a small caseload each month which enables me time with my own family and to be well rested.

Going through a pretty rough time lately, having thoughts about giving up and throwing in the towel. I don't feel like my happy cheerful self anymore and nothing I do seems to be healing me. Everyone has these days but it's like this has been hanging over me for a year or so now. Sadly the end of the road may be near

Quick poll
For any women whom I have cared for previously....
If you had the option of choosing either the Maternity Notes book I currently use (with all your results, visits and info in it) OR completely paperless and electronic where you could log in to a portal and have access to all the same info (similar to the program my backups use Expect), which of these would you prefer?
Please comment below and let me know.

DILATION STATION! 💯

Aka the "Get it done position." 💪🏽 Most of my clients know that I love using the toilet for labor. It's the best way to release a pelvic floor and help a baby descend into the pelvis. The contractions are super intense on the potty, but that's because they are super productive! Trust me when I tell you, this is one of the all time best labor positions!

🚽you are naturally prone to relaxing your pelvic floor and perineum while sitting on the toilet.
🚽the bathroom is a place of privacy and solitude and you are used to relaxing in this room.
🚽you are using gravity
🚽you are opening your pelvis.
🚽you are allowing your baby lots of room to rotate and navigate the birth canal.
🚽you can also turn around and straddle the toilet with a pillow in front of you for comfort.

We call it the “dilation station” for a reason. I’ve encouraged many mommies to spend some time laboring on the toilet. It’s not uncommon for baby to come rather quickly after that 🤗
