Meet Tate!
Rotorua born and bred, Tate is a valued member of the team at Collingwood Funeral Home, where he works as an on call Funeral Assistant and lends a hand in just about every corner of the operation. Based in Rotorua, he’s known for his reliability, compassion, and uncanny ability to be exactly where he’s needed—often before anyone even asks.

A young overachiever in the most polite sense of the word, Tate has already racked up an impressive list of accomplishments. These include being named Rotorua Performer of the Year (2022), earning a Grade 8 Speech New Zealand Scholarship, and going on to complete both his ASB Diploma with Speech New Zealand and a Musical Theatre (ATCL) Diploma with Trinity College London—achieving Distinction in both, because of course he could. During this time, he also somehow found the hours in the day to serve as Head of Community Prefect and Drama Captain at John Paul College.

Outside the funeral home, Tate continues to keep himself busy (surprise, surprise). He is an active member of the City of Rotorua Highland Pipe Band and is currently studying towards a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychological Science and Political Science at Victoria University of Wellington.

With a strong sense of community, a commitment to service, and a work ethic that suggests he may secretly have more than 24 hours in his day, Tate is a trusted and dedicated member of the Collingwood team, we’re lucky to have him.

We understand that not everyone is able to attend a funeral in person. That’s why we’re proud to offer a professional live-streaming service, allowing loved ones to be part of the service from wherever they are.

Unlike basic, fixed camera setups, we use state-of-the-art equipment, including a dynamic multi-camera system and mobile WiFi technology. This allows us to capture the service with care and flexibility, creating a viewing experience that feels as close as possible to being there in person—regardless of the venue location.

If this is something you require, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Take a moment to check in on your neighbours, especially anyone who may need a little extra support. Most importantly, look after yourselves and make sure your pets are safe too.

We are proud to introduce Justin - A Rotorua local, Justin is a dedicated and compassionate funeral director who goes the extra mile to ensure every family he looks after feels genuinely supported during their time of need. With a true passion for helping people, Justin takes great pride in his work and loves every aspect of his role, finding it a privilege to care for families when it matters most.

Before joining the Collingwood team, Justin spent time working in the trades, where he developed a strong work ethic, a practical approach and people skills that continues to serve him well in his career today.

Outside of work, Justin is a keen mountain biker, often found hurtling through the Redwoods, or relaxing with a cold beer with his mates. Down-to-earth and approachable, Justin is a real Kiwi guy who brings warmth, dedication, and sincerity to everything he does.

Mikes turn!!.... Introducing Mike Lee

Mike is dedicated to guiding families through every step with care, clarity, and just the right touch of reassurance. With a calm and gentle manner, he works closely with loved ones to create meaningful services that honour each person’s wishes—making a difficult time feel a little less overwhelming, and a lot more personal. His commitment to thoughtful, tailored care ensures families feel understood, supported, and in very steady hands.

Raised on a farm, Mike developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors and the rhythms of rural life. It’s an upbringing that taught him to value the simple things—and, perhaps just as importantly, how to handle life’s tougher moments with quiet strength, patience, a touch of humor where appropriate, and a good dose of common sense.

Charlie & Sam
Charlie and Sam have proudly been members of the team their entire lives — With strong work ethics (and an even stronger commitment to napping), Charlie and Sam have carved out vital roles within the funeral home: wandering around aimlessly while looking like they’re doing something important.

Their daily responsibilities are both diverse and highly specialised. These include providing emotional support to grieving families (mainly by sitting by their feet or offering a well-timed tail wag) and expertly cleaning up sausage roll crumbs after services — Tasks they approach with unmatched enthusiasm and zero formal training.

Other key duties include:

Conducting thorough floor inspections for dropped snacks (quality control is everything)

Supervising staff tea breaks to ensure no biscuit goes unmonitored

Greeting visitors with a level of excitement usually reserved for long-lost relatives

Maintaining strict security protocols by barking at absolutely nothing

Despite their busy schedule, Charlie and Sam always find time to boost team morale, often by dramatically flopping onto their backs in the middle of the office and refusing to move.

In summary, while these boys may not understand the finer details of the business, they are widely regarded as the most important members of the team — mostly because no one else takes their job quite as seriously as they don’t.

Meet Robyn!!

Robyn oversees our office administration and also serves as a funeral assistant, playing a vital role in the smooth and compassionate care we provide families. Warm, caring, and unflappable, Robyn has a calming presence and a remarkable ability to keep the team steady during even the most trying times.

A devoted mother of two, proud nana of two, and happily married to Lee, Robyn brings the same generosity from her home life into her work. In her spare time, she loves catering for the masses who regularly gather at her house. You’ll most often find Robyn at the front desk or in the chapel, offering a welcoming smile and a reassuring presence to those we serve.

Recently, I had to arrange two funerals less than a month of each other, and having not had to do this before, was feeling extremely overwhelmed and grief stricken. I was fortunate enough to make contact with Mike at Collingwood Funeral Home after a google search and immediately, I felt his care and compassion through the phone. Their care of our deceased loved ones, was exemplary and they stayed in contact throughout the process, and answered any questions we had honestly and in a timely fashion. All the staff were welcoming and treated us with care and kindness. From the initial first contact, to receiving our loved ones ashes back, was done in a thorough and timely manner, which was so appreciated and needed. The whole team made a difficult and emotional time, not just easier, they made it so very special, and helped ease the heartache and grief we were feeling.
So, if you are requiring the services of an exceptional funeral home, you will not find better care or communication than the team at Collingwood Funeral Home. If I could give them 10 stars, I would.

"Every human being in this world is unique. They are welcomed into this world by the living. They should be farewelled from this world by the living. It's a gift to be able to say goodbye to someone you love and not feel alone in your grief"

A funeral doesn’t “fix” grief.
The pain doesn’t disappear after the service.
But it does something deeply important:
It marks the moment life changes, the moment we step into the “after.”
It’s the community saying:
“You mattered. You changed us. You will be carried forward.”
At its heart, a funeral is an act of love.
For the person who died.
And for everyone left behind.

If you’re planning a farewell (or thinking about your own wishes), talk to a Funeral Directors Association member firm https://funeraldirectors.co.nz/arranging-a-funeral/find-a-funeral-director/

Because saying goodbye properly matters.
