FAQ Cervical Self-Test
Your common questions answered.

• Can I do it myself?
Yes, but you still need to get the kit from a provider (GP, Family Planning, etc.) and return the sample to them.

• Does it hurt?
No, it is generally considered pain-free or involves minimal to no discomfort.

• Who can have the self-test?
The self-test is available for women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 69.

• What if I have my period?
You can still test if bleeding isn't too heavy; for post-birth, wait 6 weeks.

• Do I still need it if vaccinated?
Yes, the vaccine doesn't cover all cancer-causing HPV types.

Good news!
If you’re 25–69 and have a cervix, you can now do a quick, private va**nal swab for your cervical screening. The va**nal swab test is an easy way to collect your cervical screening sample. With this test you collect a sample from your va**na, not from the cervix. It’s quick and easy and should not be uncomfortable.

Email or phone our clinic, or visit TimeToCervicalScreen.nz to find out more.

Living, studying, partying and socialising closely means students are more exposed to bacteria spread by coughing, sneezing, kissing, sharing drinks or vapes.

The 15–24 age group currently has the highest number of confirmed meningococcal cases in NZ, and cases progress fast and often mistaken for being run down or ‘after a big night’.
Vaccination gives strong protection but you need BOTH MenB and MenACWY vaccinations.
