Summer Solstice at my house smells like dirt and fresh garlic 🧄
Here in NZ we plant garlic around Winter Solstice in June and harvest near the Summer Solstice. This year was on the day ✨️
The pic is 1/2 of my 60-head harvest. Storebought garlic in my area is either really expensive non-organic NZ-grown, or fumigated garlic from China. In a 1-metre square peice of earth, I've grown enough garlic to supply 1 head per week for an entire year. 😃
Now I'm going to a seed in a second round of summer squash in the empty garlic bed to enjoy some fresh squash when the first round loses its vigor.
Garlic is very forgiving to grow. You don't have to be a "gardener" to grow your own food! 💪
Garlic has loads of health benefits (boosts immune system and feeds good gut bacteria to name a few) and let's face it, just makes every meal better. 🍽
