Most funders will cover your project costs. Fewer will cover your power bill.

At Hawke's Bay Foundation, we will.

When our annual funding round opens on Monday, organisations can apply for both project costs and general operating expenses - things like salaries, wages and rent. The costs that keep the doors open and the mahi going.

We know that without reliable operational funding, even the best community programmes struggle to survive. A new initiative means nothing if the organisation behind it can't pay its staff.

Up to $15,000 is available per organisation, and your application is automatically considered across two funding streams - Hawke's Bay Foundation and The Tindall Foundation - from a single submission.

Applications open Monday May 4th and close on Thursday June 4th.

Last week, we wrapped up our final Active As Connect in Wairoa.

The day was filled with whanaungatanga, kēmu, kai, and kōrero, all centred around something that matters deeply: keeping movement, physical activity, wellbeing, and connection alive in our kura long into the future.

But honestly? The highlight was celebrating our rangatahi. Three years of mahi. Three years of growth, leadership, creativity, and real impact in their kura and communities. Watching them reflect on that journey was something we won't forget.

Bittersweet? Absolutely. The end? Not even close.
Ngā mihi nui to everyone who's been part of this journey. 🤍

It's Road Safety Week, and the theme this year is Be a Road Safety Hero!

That's why we're giving a MEGA shout-out to Hastings District Council - Te Kaunihera ā-Rohe o Heretaunga and Central Hawke's Bay District Council for championing the Play Streets initiative right here in Hawke's Bay.

Play Streets is a worldwide initiative that turns quiet residential streets into safe play spaces for 2–3 hours at a time. Traffic slows, the street opens up, and tamariki and rangatahi get to bike, ride scooters, draw chalk art, laugh, and just... play. Close to home. On their own street.

Want to bring a Play Street to your neighbourhood?

Healthy Active Learning || What an incredible day with our Year 7 & 8 leaders!

We officially launched Active Rangatira Ako (ARA), an event that brought together our Super 6 Intermediate leaders to explore leadership in a whole new way.

Building on that, these rangatahi dug deep into the idea that real leadership has nothing to do with a title. It's about connection, inclusiveness, and the impact you can have in your kura and community.

A standout moment followed when Max, Head Boy of St John's College and former Tamatea Intermediate student, shared some honest kōrero about the challenges of leadership and why timing, humility and intention matter far more than ego ever will.

After Max spoke, one of our Tamatea leaders blew everyone away with a beautiful reflection – followed by a haka tribute to Max. That moment said everything about pride, connection and growth.

We are proud to support these ākonga as they grow into leaders, leaving the event more purposeful and inspired.

Always be kind – and make life a wave you'll never forget. 🤙 - Max MacInnes

Tū Manawa Fast Fund applications open until May 15 💡🗓️

The Tū Manawa fund supports a wide range of Hawke’s Bay organisations to help break down barriers to participation in physical activity, by providing opportunities for tamariki and rangatahi who are statistically less likely to participate in regular physical activity.

One organisation we proudly support is Napier Boxing. When they came to us, the stats were striking: 443 registered males under 19 in NZ boxing and only 66 females 😮 (Boxing NZ)

We helped them purchase equipment through the Fast Fund to get girls in the ring, and participation jumped significantly. This year, they became a successful Full Fund applicant, running Female Rangatahi Boxing Sessions for wāhine aged 11–17, led by head coach Naomi Eunson and female youth coaches.
A safe, structured and empowering space to build confidence, discipline and resilience. 🥊

The Fast Fund can support equipment, venue hire, delivery costs and more. Whatever your idea, we're here to help bring it to life!

📋 Applications up to $8,000 considered every two months.
