Come along and join us for kirtan, a harmonious blend of music and ancient sanskrit mantras. Rooted in the Bhakti Yoga tradition, kirtan intertwines melodious vibrations with heartfelt expressions of joy and devotion to the Divine. It is both meditative, and a musical conversation between participants.
As a meditation, kirtan is joyful and effortless. The music and melody give the mind a soothing resting place, allowing focus to be naturally inspired without force. In sanskrit, the root of the word ‘kirtan’ is literally, ‘celebration and glorification,’ giving hint to the uplifting mood of the music.
Kirtan is not a musical performance, and no musical ability or singing talent is required to join in. It only requires involvement in the form of your enthusiasm and willingness to take part with your voice, or clapping, or you can bring your own instrument and play along. You are welcome to actively participate or graciously listen as you like.
The deeply sacred sounds of the mantras have the power to benefit, heal and elevate all layers of our being - physical, mental, vibrational, emotional and spiritual.
Whilst kirtan is practiced as a form of self-realisation by some and as a personal experience, it also builds naturally sweet connections and a sense of community (satsang) with the other participants.
Guided by Rati, Balarama and Antar, seasoned kirtan practitioners with over 20 years of experience.
We will wrap up the evening with some chai and an opportunity to meet and get to know other like minded people.
