Effective immediately, residents in Richmond, Hope, Māpua/ Ruby Bay, and Redwood 1 and 2, will move to Phase E water restrictions.

Nelson residents living adjacent to Champion Road, Wakatū Industrial Estate, and parts of Saxton Road West, where water is supplied from the Richmond Water Supply Scheme, will also face Phase E water restrictions.

Brightwater and Wakefield will remain on Phase A, the Eighty-Eight Valley scheme will remain on Phase C, and Dovedale will remain on Phase D.

Commercial users and public institutions in Richmond, Hope, Waimea and Māpua/Ruby Bay areas will be subject to Phase D restrictions.

Our message to use water according to your area’s phase level is more important than ever - conserving water as much as possible will lower the demand and therefore reduce the severity of the restrictions we put in place.

These restrictions remain due to the lack of meaningful rain in forecasts for the next few weeks, but there is light at the end of the tunnel regarding the Waimea Dam's ability to support water users.

It is understood Waimea Water Ltd is on the verge of enabling one of three pipes currently being constructed at the foot of the dam, as opposed to relying on the spillway by the end of the week. This pipe will support a greater flow into, and increased levels in the Lee River than has been delivered in the last few weeks over the spillway.

We expect other pipes will be enabled over the next few weeks. This does not mean the dam has been commissioned effecting handover from the construction team, but it does mean urban and commercial water users downstream will begin to see the value brought to the area by the investment in the dam.

❗️Lee Valley Update 3.45pm❗️
Hi again - here is the information about the community hub. It will be by the cordon at the Lee Valley Bridge and open from 9am until about 4pm. If you're an evacuated resident or you live in the valley, drop in any time that suits you for information, support or just a chat (there may be bikkies - no promises!). The hub replaces the Civil Defence Centre at the Wanderers’ Clubrooms.
❗️Lee Valley Update 3.30pm❗️
Here's a summary of what our Incident Controller Steve Trigg and District Manager Grant Haywood shared with residents this afternoon.
• We’re making steady progress fighting the fire and aim to have it fully contained by the end of tomorrow, although it will take longer to put it out.
• Until the fire is contained, residents who evacuated yesterday will have managed access to their properties so they can take care of stock and carry out other essential tasks, while staying elsewhere overnight
• Tomorrow we will set up a community hub where Lee Valley residents can come for information and get support any time of day. We’ll post the location and opening times later today.
• When the fire is contained, we’ll support residents to go home with some restrictions like lowered speed limits, escorted and resident-only access while fire operations are still underway.
• Meanwhile, helicopter and ground operations are continuing, and the fireground has been more accurately mapped – it covers about 9 hectares of pine forestry.
❗️Lee Valley Update 12.20pm❗️
• Firefighters, helicopters and heavy machinery operators are still working to bring the fire under control. It is not contained yet, but it hasn’t grown in size and is still estimated at 5 hectares.
• All roadblocks remain in place and we really appreciate the community’s support in avoiding the area so our crews, vehicles and machinery can carry on working without worrying about other traffic.
• A reminder that the 1pm meeting at the Wanderers’ Clubrooms is open to all Lee Valley residents, and we will also share the information here afterwards.
• And finally, wherever you are in Nelson-Tasman and Marlborough – in fact just about the whole South Island! – please remember the high fire danger and avoid any activities that could spark a fire. If you live in a rural area you should make an evacuation plan in case of wildfire, if you don’t already have one.
❗️Lee Valley Update 11.35am❗️
The 1pm meeting at the Wanderers' Clubrooms will be open to all Lee Valley residents who wish to come, not just for those who were evacuated yesterday.
We will also share the information from the meeting here afterwards for those who can't get there.
And we expect to have an update from the fireground before too long as well.
❗️Lee Valley Update 8.30am❗️
Residents who were evacuated from Lee Valley yesterday are invited to a community meeting at 1pm today. We will let you know what's happening on the fireground, the plan for containing the fire, and what milestones need to be reached to get you back home. The meeting will be at the civil defence centre at the Wanderers Clubrooms in Lord Rutherford Road - 1pm.
❗️Lee Valley Update 7am❗️
• Four crews of firefighters and two heavy machinery operators worked through the night. The fire is not yet controlled or contained, but there has been no reported damage to property overnight, aside from the forest itself.
• Two urban crews were tasked with protecting structures while two rural crews and the excavator operators were making fire breaks and control lines.
• Seven helicopters will be back in the air this morning and the excavators will continue making firebreaks.
• Specialist forestry silviculture / firefighting crews will using thermal imaging equipment to identify hotspots and tackling each one with hand tools and hoses.
• All roadblocks remain in place and we appreciate your help in staying away so our crews can focus on their work.
• Please remember private drones must not be flown anywhere near the Lee Valley so we don’t have to ground the helicopters again.
• Nelson-Tasman Civil Defence will reopen the civil defence centre at the Wanderers’ Clubrooms on Lord Rutherford Drive at 8am.
We will have another update later this morning.
