We often focus on caring for facial skin, but our hands are among the first places to show signs of ageing, as they are exposed to the environment every day, yet they are often among the most overlooked areas when it comes to skincare.

Washing your hands often, spending time in the sun, and other environmental factors can slowly damage the skin on your hands. This can cause dryness, dark spots, and other signs of ageing. Since the skin here is naturally thinner, it loses moisture more easily and can change over time.

Choosing the right hand care products helps keep your skin hydrated, strengthens its natural barrier, and protects it from everyday stress.

Ingredients like nourishing oils, moisturizing agents, and daily sun protection can all help your hands look healthy and well cared for.

Taking care of your hands is an easy step that can really improve your overall skin health.

At skinmatters, we believe that understanding your skin helps you take better care of it in the long run.

The Green Peel® treatment, developed by Dr Christine Schrammek, is a herbal-based skin-renewal method designed to stimulate the skin’s natural regenerative process.

Unlike traditional peels, Green Peel uses a blend of carefully selected herbs that are massaged into the skin. This process helps stimulate circulation, increase oxygen supply and encourage the skin’s natural renewal cycle.

The treatment can support improvements in a range of skin concerns, including uneven tone, pigmentation, acne, congestion and ageing skin. By encouraging skin regeneration, Green Peel improves skin texture and vitality over time.

At skinmatters, we believe understanding how treatments work is an important part of caring for your skin. The more we understand about skin health, the better we can support it as it changes over time.

What actually happens to skin as we age?

Ageing skin isn’t just about wrinkles. Many of the visible changes we notice result from gradual structural changes beneath the skin.

Over time, collagen production slows, which can affect the skin’s firmness and support. Cell turnover also slows, so the skin may appear duller or less even in texture. The skin gradually loses elasticity, so it doesn’t bounce back as easily, and it can become thinner and more delicate as the years pass.

Understanding these natural changes helps you care for your skin more thoughtfully as it evolves over time.

jane iredale products use skin-friendly ingredients that support your skin, unlike many traditional cosmetics.

Some of the benefits include:

• Mineral-based formulas that allow the skin to breathe
• Non-comedogenic ingredients that are less likely to clog pores
• Built-in sun protection in many products
• Lightweight coverage that enhances natural skin rather than masking it
• Suitable for sensitive or post-treatment skin

Since many of our clients have advanced skin treatments, we think it’s important to use makeup that supports healthy skin. At skinmatters, we always follow the same approach: we start with education, offer personalised recommendations, and choose products that help your skin stay healthy over time.

If you want makeup that works with your skin instead of just covering it, talk to Dianne the next time you visit the clinic.

It’s helpful to know the difference because everyone’s skin is unique, and each one benefits from its own gentle care and routine.

Dehydrated skin
This simply means your skin isn’t getting enough water right now, which is very common and nothing to worry about. Any skin type can become dehydrated, even oily skin.

You might feel tightness or notice your skin looks a bit dull, tired, or even see some fine lines—signs of dehydration that many people experience from time to time.

Dry skin
Dry skin is simply a skin type that doesn’t produce enough oil, and that’s perfectly normal for lots of people.

Signs of dry skin include rough texture, flaking, itchiness, and ongoing dryness.

It’s also possible for your skin to be both dry and dehydrated at the same time. Because of this, getting a skin assessment is especially helpful.

At skinmatters, we always begin by understanding what the skin actually needs. After all, the right treatment starts with the right diagnosis.

Our approach is simple: • Education first • Personalised treatment plans • Results built through healthy skin.

If your skin ever feels tight, dull, or unsettled, we’re here to help you find the most comforting way to care for it together.

Dermapen skin needling helps your skin start to repair and renew itself.

Dermapen uses fine needles to create tiny channels in your skin. This gentle treatment increases collagen and elastin, which keep your skin strong, firm, and smooth.

With time, this treatment can improve uneven skin texture, acne scars, pigmentation, fine lines, and large pores.

Unlike treatments that only work on the surface, skin needling helps your skin rebuild and get stronger from the inside.

At skinmatters, we customise every treatment for you. We choose the depth, technique, and serums based on your skin and what you want to achieve.

We help you understand your options and create a treatment plan just for you. This way, you know why we make certain recommendations and what results to expect.

If you want to find out if Dermapen is right for your skin, talk to Dianne or book a consultation.

At skinmatters, our approach to skin is built on three simple principles.

We believe understanding your skin is the foundation of good treatment decisions. Our goal is always to explain what is happening in your skin and why certain treatments may help.

Everyone’s skin is different. In every consultation, we look at your skin history, concerns, and goals to make sure your treatment is just right for you. Skin care should never feel like guesswork.

We focus on improving the skin’s structure and function. Real skin change happens gradually when the skin is properly supported and treated.

At skinmatters, we focus on helping you understand your skin so your choices are informed and your results are meaningful.

If you want to know what your skin truly needs, starting with a consultation with Dianne is your best first step.

You might see your skin looking darker or notice more pigmentation after summer.

What many people don’t realise is that the pigmentation you see now often began forming weeks or even months ago.

So the real question is: Do you know what’s happening under your skin?

When your skin gets UV exposure, special cells called melanocytes get to work. They protect your skin by making melanin, which gives skin its colour.

But if your skin gets too much sun or heat, these cells can become overactive and start making too much pigment under the surface.

Over time, this extra pigment rises to the surface and shows up as sun spots, uneven skin tone, melasma, or darker patches.

That’s why pigmentation often looks more obvious after summer, even if you were in the sun weeks ago.

Learning what’s happening under your skin is the first step to improving it.

At skinmatters, Dianne can meet with you to check your skin, find out what might be causing your pigmentation, and create a plan to help your complexion become clearer and more even over time.

If you’re seeing pigmentation, booking a consultation is a great first step.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve held our first two complimentary Inside The Treatment Room education sessions, small, focused gatherings designed to explain the science behind what we do.

These sessions are not sales events. They are clinical conversations.

We covered how regenerative skin therapies stimulate collagen and support long-term skin function, why combining advanced technologies enhances outcomes, the difference between surface treatments and true structural skin changes, the beauty and simplicity of jane iredale and more.

At skinmatters, we believe informed clients make confident decisions. Understanding the “why” behind a treatment is just as important as the treatment itself.

There is a great deal of information circulating in the aesthetics industry. Not all of it is evidence-based. Not all of it is appropriate for every skin type. Education allows you to navigate that confidently.

If you would like to attend a future session, please connect with Dianne in the clinic or email clinic@skinmattesr.co.nz to be added to the list. Spaces are intentionally limited to allow time for discussion and questions.

Our philosophy is simple: education first, strategy second. results that are built, not rushed.

As February comes to a close, we’re returning to one simple idea,
skin thrives when it feels supported.

This month has been about skin wellness, regeneration, and ageing gracefully. Not as trends or promises, but as a way of caring for skin over time.

When skin is treated with consistency, calm, and respect, it has the space to repair, strengthen, and age well.

That doesn’t end with the month. It’s something you carry forward quietly, steadily, intentionally.

If you’re unsure what your skin needs next, a professional consultation with Dianne can help bring clarity.
