Come and join us to celebrate the Winter Solstice with 108 Sun Salutes! A true Meditation in Motion Thurs 18th June from 5.30pm, members FREE non members $25. The number 108 carries deep symbolic meaning in yoga and many Eastern traditions. At a simple level, it’s about focus and endurance. Repeating the sun salute sequence 108 times becomes a moving meditation: your breath, body, and mind start to sync, and distractions fall away. It’s challenging, but also rhythmic and calming once you settle into it. The number itself is where it gets interesting. In yoga philosophy and related traditions:
🔥 There are said to be 108 energy lines (nadis) that converge at the heart.
🔥 A traditional mala (prayer bead necklace) has 108 beads, used for meditation.
🔥 In astronomy, the distance between the Earth and the Sun is roughly 108 times the Sun’s diameter, which adds a cosmic layer of meaning.
The practice of doing 108 sun salutes is often treated as a kind of ritual or reset. It’s commonly practiced at times of transition—like the change of seasons, solstices, or the new year—to mark letting go of the old and welcoming something new. 21st June marks the winter solstice, our practice will run from 5.30pm - 7pm on Thursday 18th, members FREE non members $25. By the end, most people feel both exhausted and surprisingly clear - like they’ve worked through something, not just in the body, but in the mind too.
If you’re ever thinking of trying it, it’s completely OK to modify, rest, or even do a smaller number. Let me know you're keen!
