Interesting story and I too have had a client with a similar outcome.

Chronic pain following surgery. A great outcome !

(I’ve recycled this post from 2020)

I recently spoke to a client I treated almost 3 years ago. She allowed me to share her Bowen experience and I’m glad she did, because hers was one of the most memorable Bowen treatments and outcomes that I’ve carried out.

My client for 26 years had been suffering severe pain in her right scapula (shoulder blade) since she had undergone open heart surgery in 1991.
The pain could not be explained by her doctors and over the years she had been on heavy pain medications and tried many different treatments to no avail.

It was interfering with every aspect of her life including sleep and any kind of physical activity. She described the pain as radiating under the shoulder blade and was sometimes excruciating.

She decided to try Bowen.

During her treatment, she experienced tingling in the troublesome shoulder blade, which continued for some time afterwards. (This type of tingling during treatment is quite normal, although some clients don’t experience this.)

On returning for her 2nd (and final) treatment, she was in disbelief that the scapula pain had disappeared within days. Although she wasn’t getting her hopes up too much in case it returned.

Just before Christmas the following year I received a phone call from her and she said something like “I just want to say thank you so much. That pain hasn’t come back. You have changed my life and I just wanted to tell you that before Christmas.”

3 years on and the pain still hasn’t returned.

This is one example of how effective the human body can be in repairing itself once it’s given the right conditions and stimulus to do so.

If you are suffering any kind of pain whether it’s a new injury or long term (chronic), Bowen may help and I would suggest is certainly worth a try.

(Note: Everybody responds at different rates to treatment and often more than two treatments are required for chronic conditions.)

I I so agree with this

I I so agree with this

When your nervous system feels like spaghetti…

Sometimes a gentle pause (like Bowen) is just what you need to start untangling.

In essence the Bowenwork practitioner is a facilitator, not a manipulator.

By applying the moves, the practitioner gives the body specific neurological signals to relax, and then steps back for a few minutes to allow the body to 'relax itself.'

Compared to many other bodywork techniques, Bowenwork initiates an internal response that stimulates restoration of the body's equilibrium, rather than an external approach of manipulating areas of tight muscle tension until it is released.

It's all connected. Nothing happens or heals in isolation.

As a holistic bodywork technique, Bowen Therapy recognises that your whole structure is connected.

Your sore ankle might be caused by pelvis dysfunction, or your knee pain might stem from your neck.

Your Bowen Therapist will work with your whole body to try to get to the source of your discomfort.

We are all experiencing the trauma, and it's normal to feel a variety of emotions. Sadness, anger, fear, frustration, gratitude, overwhelm, worry, or perhaps disconnected from your body, tight chested, inability to breathe deeply, butterflies, tingly, pain, cramps, all of these and more, are SO VERY NORMAL right now. Sometimes they can come all in the same minute.💜

Please know that you are ok, we are all in this together. Talk to a loved one or friend, it does help to shift the feelings. If you need someone there is also the 1737 number to text or call.💜

A word around guilt. This is also VERY COMMON right now. Feeling like you didn't lose your home, loved ones or pets, and that you can't do enough to help. This feeling is normal right now. 💜

Feelings come and go. We are not our thoughts and feelings. It is also very draining. The constant images, information, stories and scrolling is sometimes to much. Try to limit this, and balance it with a gentle walk. Movement of your body (forcing yourself if you have to) may help shift the feelings. I know because I've been here many times before 💜

Take it all a day at a time. An hour at a time. It's ok that we feel however we feel right now. And it's ok to rest if you need to too 💜

We need to preserve our energy as much as need to help. You can't help if you don't look after yourself and your whanau first💜

And it's ok. Its all ok. 💜

This technique can bring you back to your body quickly in moments of anxiety or distress. Share it with anyone who needs it, kids and adults💜

For all those Mumma's out there, first time, next time, last time and years ago

"They tell us how to grow a baby. What to eat.
What not to eat. What vitamins to take and what bras to buy. Allll the prenatal yoga moves to do.

But they forget to tell us how to put ourselves back together once that baby is born.
They forget to tell us how we might feel like we’re drifting.
Afloat. Alone. On a life raft with leaky breasts and sore stitches and a tiny little being dependent upon us for survival.
They forget to tell us how weird and wild it feels to have loose organs shifting about inside of us. How there will be so much softness still.

I get it. You don’t want to startle us. You don’t want us to be scared about what’s ahead.
But….a little heads up would be helpful
We’re brave enough for the truth.
And those things you find so scary- loose skin and leaky breasts and big feelings- we might just be bold enough to welcome them.
To see the beauty there.

So here’s the truth mama-
Your pelvic floor will probably need work and attention. You’ll have to put in some effort to regain that muscle strength, no matter how gentle your birth. Your breasts and belly will probably never be the same. Love them anyway. Love than more than before!! Celebrate them! Buy bras that make you feel sexy. Then move on.

Your identity and sense of self will change radically. Buckle up for the ride. You’ve got this. Your partnership and friendships and general relationship with the outside world might feel foreign for awhile. Or forever. Those relationships might crack and break under the weight of new parenthood. Live your truth. Leave the rest behind. In love.

The whole world might feel shaken up.
You’ll probably feel shaky and raw
That’s normal (they just forgot to tell you.)

You’re new here. In this skin. In this role. In this love. You’ll find your way. You’ll find your rhythm. It will all fall into place- with time.
Until then- breathe.
As deeply as you can.
Drink your tea before it gets cold.
If you can.
Rest -
whenever you can.
And love on your new self.
As deeply as you can."
