On Saturday morning, a first-time mamma broke her waters, and a little time later, contractions followed. Labour was progressing nicely. There was a little breakdown in communication and mamma and papa got the timing wrong for calling the midwife, they left it until the baby was ‘coming out’ before calling the midwife. So, baby girl was born at home, unplanned 😁. What a story to tell! Mamma was simply awesome, and daddy was a little shell-shocked 😆, but they were so proud that baby girl had arrived safe and sound. There wasn’t much for the midwife to do by the time mummy, daddy and baby arrived at the maternity unit. Just a placenta to deliver! Congratulations and happy born at home day baby girl.

Last Wednesday, 8th October, Western Wednesday in fact 😁, the cutest little cowboy arrived earthside. His mamma was an absolute powerhouse. This first-time mamma did a massive load of work at home, lovingly supported by her mamma and hubby. After heading into maternity, well established in labour, she quietly laboured away, so focused, so dedicated to her baby. The time came to push and mamma did a bloody awesome job of pushing, but little cowboy didn’t make it easy on mamma. Time was called and transfer to Rotorua was made. Little man was super low, we could see his little head and dark wisps of hair, so close, but just not able to get over the line. With some better pain relief on board, mamma dug deep, she was able to give us one final push and with a helping hand from the doctor little man's head was born…. and there, the problem with his final descent was seen… Baby boy must have been practising his roping skills and had got himself a little bit tied up in his cord, which was so tight around his neck that he could not get out. His cord needed to be clamped and cut first to get his body out… Not something you see every day! He was a little bit stunned, but after a little bit of help from the baby doctor, little man was ready to get back on the horse and meet his mummy and daddy for cuddles – and his nanny, waiting anxiously outside of theatre. What an awesome family, now with a new baby boy, so loved and cherished.

During the evening of the 28th September, a second-time mamma started to get the familiar niggles of early labour. The niggles came and went during the night, but by 7am the following morning, 29th September, contractions were now regular and getting much stronger. Mamma stayed at home as long as she could, and then the time came for her and hubby to head into Maternity. Labour had established, and now this beautiful couple really showed us what they were made of. They were the A team for sure! With hypnobirthing their go-to coping strategy. Mamma quietly and calmly rocked her labour, her loving hubby forever by her side, encouraging her, empowering her. Dilation ticked along slowly, but normally. Mamma remained focused and strong, and the hours passed by. At 3:13pm waters spontaneously broke, and then at 3:20pm a baby boy was born. Mamma did an awesome job in bringing him into the world. And daddy did a pretty good job too. Fantastic support from start to finish. Two brothers, going to be best buddies for sure.

As dawn was breaking on the 26th September, a third-time mamma, her excited partner, and nanny arrived at Taupo Maternity for labour assessment. However, there wasn't much time for assessment. As mamma was getting onto the bed, baby didn't want to wait and out popped his little head! What a star this mamma was. She remained cool, calm, and collected, ready to receive her baby into her arms. A super handsome little boy. Mamma was so proud of her effort, and so she should be; she was simply awesome.

On the 22nd September, a second time mamma and her partner headed to Rotorua for an induction of labour, as bubs was a little too comfy inside and showing no signs of arrival. The induction process is no easy task, and can take a reasonable amount of time to allow for labour to establish. This was true for this awesome mamma who just wanted to meet her baby girl, safely on the outside. It took a while, but finally, signs were there to say labour was underway. During the wee small hours of September 23rd, the LMC was called and immediately made their way over to Rotorua. Not in keeping with the prior trend of not wanting to arrive, baby girl suddenly got a bit of a spurt on, and she was in proud a daddy’s arms when the LMC arrived. From the phone call to get the LMC on the way and bubs arrival, it 32 minutes! 5cm dilated to 10cm dilated and a baby out in 32 minutes!! Now that’s impressive. Baby girl did get a bit of a shock with her rapid delivery and needed a little bit of help to stabilise herself in the outside world, but just like her mamma, she showed her mighty strength and soon came around. A gorgeous wee girl joins her awesome big brother to complete this cute little family. Congratulations and welcome to the world, sweet baby girl.

Mid afternoon on the 22nd September, a little bum down, legs up baby girl arrived safely earthside, coming out via the sunroof as planned. This beautiful little girl joins her, only slightly bigger, brother to make up a pigeon pair for this gorgeous little family, a lovely return client too. Mamma says she is just perfect, and I couldn’t agree more. Welcome to the world little one.

On the evening of September 21st, a beautiful family arrived at Taupo Maternity. Having had a few false starts, this fourth time mamma was more than ready to meet her baby. It was early in the labour and the mood was upbeat and jovial. Surrounded by family, the room oozed aroha for this mamma and pepe. With waters broken, the real spicy contractions came rolling in. Mamma had the perfect poker face because she wasn’t giving too much away as to how this labour was progressing. Fully dilated arrived pretty soon, and in a little over an hour and a half after arriving at maternity, baby girl was earthside, caught by an ever-so proud aunty and welcomed in by her nanny with beautiful Waiata Oriori. It was an absolute privilege to be part of such an awesome family affair.

On the 19th September, the day had finally arrived for a beautiful second time mamma to meet her baby boy. Undergoing an elective C-section, the cutest little man arrived safe and sound as planned. This little one joins his big brother; they will no doubt become the best little hunters, following in the steps, hopefully quietly, of their daddy. Welcome to the world little one.

On the 13th September just before midnight a first-time mamma arrived at Taupo Maternity in the throes of labour. Lovingly supported by her partner, mamma had rocked most of her labour at home. A quick check confirmed that this awesome woman had indeed become well established in labour. The TENS machine had done a great job in helping with contractions, but now the warmth and comfort of pool was beckoning. Not long after 3am on the 14th, waters broke and expedited the progress of labour. Mamma so strong and controlled, and daddy watching on in awe, with a reassuring arm on mum’s shoulder or a cool cloth for her brow. In a little less than an hour, the most gorgeous wee boy was born ever-so gently in the pool and up into his mamma's loving arms, bringing tears to daddy's eyes (okay and the midwife’s), so proud of his partner and so in love with his new baby boy. Congratulations to this awesome little family.
