Chronic venous insufficiency can lead to visible varicose veins, leg swelling, pigmentation, varicose eczema-and symptoms of aching, heaviness, itching, cramping or even restless legs. ❓Spider telangiectasis are dilated blood vessels, and have a spider-like appearance.

👩‍👩‍👦‍👦 They are common in children and adults, affecting 10–15% of the population.
They are more easily seen in fair skin compared to skin of colour.

🕷️🕷️Multiple spider telangiectases arise most frequently in pregnancy, women taking the combined contraceptive pill, in liver disease or hyperthyroid conditions.

🤳🏻These are easily diagnosed usually by the use of a dermatoscope

Spider telangiectases are different from ‘spider veins’, which are blue-coloured dilated venules on the thighs and lower legs and often associated with varicose veins.

Spider telangiectasis are harmless and do not require treatment.

👩‍⚕️However, Intensed Pulsed Light or Vascular Laser are treatment options that are less likely to cause scarring, unlike cryotherapy or electrocautery.

Spider telangiectases can persist or disappear, they can often disappear spontaneously after six months post delivery if pregnancy related. They can also reappear after initially successful treatment.
