Conversations around “bleph” surgery are all over social media. Short for blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, it’s gaining traction especially among people in their 20s.

While this is a procedure we offer, it’s not one we typically recommend for younger patients. Unless excess skin is affecting your vision or there’s a clear medical reason, there’s usually no need. Puffiness or slight asymmetry is common in your 20s and often settles with time.

Blepharoplasty is usually more appropriate later in life, when the skin around the eyes naturally begins to loosen and feel heavy. That’s when surgery can make a real difference, both in how your eyes feel and how they look.

When it comes to your face, don't follow the trends. We take a considered, case-by-case approach and only recommend what’s right for you long term – not just what’s trending online.

Men, especially over 50, are at greater risk of melanoma but are also less likely to book regular skin checks. It’s often not intentional. They might not notice a spot, or simply don’t think it’s worth checking.

Not all sunscreens are created equal. 🧴

A recent Australian test found that 11 sunscreens sold in New Zealand didn’t meet their SPF claims. It’s a timely reminder to choose trusted, broad-spectrum products, and to apply them correctly and consistently.

Consumer NZ says the test confirms longstanding concerns and calls for regular, transparent sunscreen testing.
