Kia ora e te iwi,

Please see the below post from New Zealand Civil Defense.

Following the 8.7 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Russia, Aotearoa New Zealand now has a National Advisory: Tsunami Activity warning in place.

Coastal areas may experience strong and unusual currents and unpredictable surges that can impact life. It is advised to stay away from beaches and shore areas, harbours, marinas, rivers and estuaries.

Stay safe, know where your closest evacuation points are and always make sure you have your emergency kits ready to go.

The state of local emergency for the Nelson Tasman region has expired. The region has now moved to a local transition period to support the recovery from the recent severe weather and flooding.

Recent data from Health NZ shows that Ngā Mataapuna Oranga has one of the highest immunisations decline rates, with 25% of whānau choosing not to immunise. As a smaller PHO with just four practices, it only takes a few whānau to shift our overall numbers.
We know that the Covid pandemic caused a lot of uncertainty and mistrust in the health system and we understand why some whānau are still hesitant.
Our focus now is on rebuilding those relationships, having open kōrero, and supporting whānau to feel safe, informed, and empowered when making decisions about the health of their tamariki.

A health provider says they're up against anti-vaccination misinformation on social media.

Last week Janice Kuka (Managing Director of Ngā Mataapuna Oranga) and Rawiri Crawford (Investment & Growth Lead) attended the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council Statewide Members Conference.

Janice presented on how we are currently navigating a changing political environment and its impacts on our people and the healthcare system. Rawiri shared some background into the development of our Tangata Whenua Model of Care, Tūāpapa.

The presentation and insight into our model of care was well received with many praises and compliments. We would like to thank our brothers and sisters at Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council, for welcoming us into your space, your wonderful hospitality and for allowing us to be part of this conference 🖤💛❤️
