Every 90 minutes, heart disease takes the life of a loved one in New Zealand.

As part of Heart Health Awareness Month, we’re encouraging Kiwis to pause and check in on their own risk – because heart disease develops quietly, with no obvious symptoms.

Heart health checks are recommended from age 45, particularly for people with:
- Unhealthy cholesterol levels
- Diabetes
- A family history of heart disease

We’re excited to support Triathlon New Zealand over the next three years as the Official Supporter and Medical Imaging Partner for the major triathlon events coming to Tauranga.

As part of RHCNZ Medical Imaging Group (Tri NZ’s Official Medical Imaging Partner), we at Bay Radiology are proud to play our part here in the Bay of Plenty.

Tauranga will host the 2026 World Triathlon Cup, the 2027 World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS), and the 2028 WTCS Grand Final - and we’ll be alongside the athletes throughout, providing high‑quality, responsive imaging care to help them start strong, go further, and recover well.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month - a time to highlight the importance of early detection and informed approaches to breast screening.

Understanding breast density is a key part of this. Dense breast tissue can make it more difficult to detect cancer on a mammogram and be associated with increased risk. For those with higher breast density, additional imaging may be recommended to improve diagnostic accuracy.

Bowel cancer is the second most common cancer in New Zealand. CT Colonography is an effective first-line option for early detection.

CT Colonography (also known as virtual colonoscopy) is a fast, accurate, and less invasive alternative to traditional colonoscopy. It uses advanced 3D imaging to examine the entire colon and surrounding abdominal area — all without the need for sedation.

If you're 45 or older, experiencing bowel-related symptoms, or have a family history of colorectal cancer, talk to your GP or specialist about whether CT colonography is right for you.

In this video, All Blacks Head Coach Scott ‘Razor’ Robertson and former All Black Israel Dagg speak openly about bowel cancer, gut health, and the benefits of CT Colonography as an accurate and less invasive first-line option for bowel cancer detection.

Last week, we hosted a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event, attracting over 65 attendees made up of physiotherapists, hand therapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, and staff.

Matt Andrews (Radiologist, Bay Radiology) delivered an insightful presentation on "Patterns of Finger Injuries from an Anatomical Basis + Imaging Techniques and Findings." His talk was both informative and engaging, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback and leaving attendees with valuable knowledge to apply in their practices.

A big shoutout to Matt, Deborah Bass (Business Development Manager), Louise Victor (Charge Sonographer) and Harriet Klava (Sonographer) for their amazing help on the night and for guiding the tours of our clinic. Their support was greatly appreciated.
