Te Puna Hauora Ki Uta Ki Tai is a free community service, which has been providing Kaupapa Māori mental health assistance for the past 23 years, the first 15 from Tauranga Hospital, and since then, from the community. We aim to lighten the load of people in need of clinical, cultural and social support in the Western Bay of Plenty. Our staff comprises a team of dedicated mental health nurses, soci
al workers, counsellors and whānau therapists, with access to health services in the hospital and the community. Our service has a specific focus on Kaupapa Māori, however we welcome clients from all backgrounds, from children through to the elderly, with mild to moderate mental health needs and addictions. We aim to support our clients by:
• Fostering self-determination
• Encouraging independence
• Partnering with whānau
• Improving whānau wellbeing and striving for better outcomes
• Improving Whānau Ora
We aim to work together in a way which draws in concepts of Whanaungatanga, bringing together whānau and resources, for the well-being of pakeke, rangatahi and tamariki. We ensure whānau have a leadership role and are included in assessment, treatment and discharge planning. As a Kaupapa Māori service we are sheltered by the cultural values of our tipuna.
