ANZAC DAY AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE RED POPPY
ANZAC Day is a National Day of Remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, commemorating the bravery and sacrifice of the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli during World War I. Celebrated annually on April 25th, ANZAC Day marks the anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign's landing in 1915.
ANZAC Day still holds deep significance in Australia and New Zealand as a day to honour not just those who fought at Gallipoli, but all military personnel who have served and sacrificed in various conflicts and peacekeeping missions since then.
There are many traditions observed on ANZAC day including the Dawn Service, ANZAC marches, commemorative ceremonies, the playing of The Last Post and of course, the wearing of the red poppy.
The Significance of The Red Poppy
As many people wear their red poppies with respect today, it’s the perfect time to remind ourselves of the symbolism behind this chosen commemorative symbol.
The Red Flowered Corn Poppy, also known as the ‘Flanders Poppy’, is a common w**d that can be seen growing wild in Europe.
It was one of the first plants to grow and bloom on the battlefields and cemeteries in the Belgian region of Flanders after WWI.
Since then, the red poppy has become a symbol of war remembrance the world over including in New Zealand.
THE POPPY AND HOMEOPATHY
The poppy is also a very important plant in the world of homeopathy as it is from the poppy plant, PAPAVER SOMNIFERUM, that O***M is extracted.
When 'potentised' into a homeopathic remedy, O***m is useful on a physical level for many conditions where there is a lack of reaction such as urine retention or constipation. However, the action of O***m can be best appreciated on a mental/emotional level.
O***m is the quintessential remedy for someone who is in a state of severe shock following a significantly traumatic experience such as warfare, sexual assault, an accident or natural disaster.
This event could have been recent or in the near or distant past.
A person in need of homeopathic O***m could be in a state of nervous over excitement, intense anxiety and heightened sensitivity to pain.
They could also be in a totally opposite state that may be dreamlike and they may also be confused, depressed, exhausted, withdrawn, shut down and unable to respond emotionally or think clearly.
Homeopathic O***m can therefore be useful for people suffering from PTSD such as war veterans and victims of war, those who have suffered from abuse, survivors of a car accident (it’s a great remedy for head injury and concussion), after a natural disaster such as an earthquake, for mother and baby after a traumatic birth and many more situations.
Homeopathic O***m can gently bring body and soul back into balance allowing the individual to reconnect with reality.
