Legacy Funerals

Legacy Funerals Complete funeral and bereavement care. Based in Tauranga and Cambridge. Every one of us has a story. A story created from our first breath to our last.

We believe funerals aren’t just a place to tell these stories. They’re a place to embrace them. That’s why every Legacy service is bespoke, helping you celebrate your loved one’s life the way they lived it. For memories that live on in your head and in your heart.

The Menz Shed Mount Maunganui, recently benefited from a donation of a new Belt and Disk Sander, courtesy of Legacy Funerals.

In conjunction with the donation, Funeral Director Robert Barclay visited the premises at 49 Aviation Avenue in Mount Maunganui, witnessing first hand how the Menz Shed provides a vital environment for men of all ages to connect, develop their skills, and contribute to the community through the making and repairing of goods. With ongoing support and open membership, the Shed continues to serve as a valuable hub for friendship, well-being, and community engagement. It’s the ideal place to “share know-how and enjoy a cuppa with the blokes.”

We recently heard from Lisa at , who shared what it’s like working alongside the Legacy team. What stood out? The genuine warmth, the way the team supports each other, and how no one hesitates to lend a hand when it’s needed.

That sense of care doesn’t stop with the families -it’s part of how our team shows up for each other every day.

At Legacy we have the ability to both livestream funeral services and create a memorial video.

Our longstanding videographer Mark Fruish shares his thoughtful, considered approach, shaped by years of experience and a sharp eye for storytelling. “The livestream is shot on three cameras that broadcast live to the person’s page on the Legacy website. When the service is filmed it includes those same three cameras plus several more. This allows me to capture the day
much more thoroughly.

The editing process allows me to tidy up the footage a little. For instance, I cut out bits where people walk in front of the camera or any unnecessary camera movements. Along with the full version of the service, I edit together a short clip of some of the beautiful moments that took place during the service. I never include faces of people grieving deeply. The finished clip is a tasteful and respectful overview of the service that becomes a nice keepsake and is great for people to share with their family and friends.”

Kayaking Tauranga Inc. actively promotes kayaking among students in the Western Bay of Plenty and Tauranga districts, exemplified by a recent trip to Tekapo for the Canoe Slalom Secondary Schools competition.

Young paddlers achieved notable success at the competition, earning themselves medals in one event or another. Legacy’s monetary contribution went towards food expenses, helping keep the paddlers well-fed during the four-day event. The support Kayaking Tauranga Inc. received from Legacy was “very much appreciated by the organisers and participants”, says committee member Michelle Sykes.

We’re proud to partner with Mark one of our main videographers here at Legacy. With over 15 years experience capturing funerals, Mark has a unique ability to take the special moments shared between people and creating a memorable piece of content for the family.

“Listening to hundreds of funerals over the years has taught me that life can end at any moment, so enjoy the time with your kids, love as deeply as you can, take risks, face your trauma and move through it. Money isn’t as important as we think it is, friendships and family are the most important things in life.”

Legacy warmly acknowledges the importance of Matariki. The appearance of the Matariki constellation - including the Pōhutukawa star, serves as a powerful symbol linking the living with those who have journeyed on. The saying ‘kua whetūrangihia koe,’ meaning ‘you have now become a star,’ beautifully encapsulates the honouring of ancestors and loved ones, acknowledging their enduring presence in our hearts and in the night sky.

We encourage everyone to take a moment during Matariki to remember, reflect, and cherish the bonds that connect us across generations. May this time bring comfort,
connection, and a renewed sense of hope for the future.

Legacy Cambridge recently signed on as a ‘Tier 1 Sponsor’ for the .rda New Zealand Riding for the Disabled Association (NZRDA) Cambridge Mane Event Fundraiser. Held in early April, the event brought together over 40 participants, including Legacy Cambridge Branch Manager Jono Gibson, who joined in the spirit of inclusivity on his skateboard with his son Monty biking alongside him.

Starting at the Grassroots Velodrome and finishing at Cambridge RDA, the “walk,
roll or wheel” event promoted community engagement and celebrated individuals
living with disabilities. This fun-filled fundraiser not only provided vital support
for Cambridge .rda initiatives but also fostered a deeper sense of connection
within the local community. Jono expressed his gratitude, stating, “It was a privilege to be able to support (and attend) this heartwarming event.”

Today, we pause to honour the love, strength, and unwavering care of mothers - those with us and those we carry in our hearts.

At Legacy Funerals, we know that Mother’s Day can be a beautiful time of remembrance and reflection. Whether you’re celebrating your mum’s warm hugs or quietly missing her gentle presence, today is a moment to cherish the legacy she
leaves behind.

May you find comfort in the memories, peace in the love shared, and strength in knowing her spirit lives on.

To all mothers and those who mother — thank you.
