I also acknowledge my Walsh, Irish & English ancestry. In the early 60's, my parents came to Mt Maunganui to get married. As a teenager, I lived on our whenua in Whakakī (Nth of Wairoa) where I connected with my Kuia, on a spiritual level, who was the healer there. However, work life soon took over. After 21 years working on construction sites, I decided to study at Toi Ohomai in 2006 to become a Personal Trainer. I then worked there for 15 years. I bring these skills forward to assist people in gaining the best outcome. In 2017, I finally acknowledged the consistent calls from my Kuia (Spiritually) to start learning rongoā māori. Firstly, with Jolie Davis & then with Atarangi Murupaenga. Their guidance towards my growth & development within the traditional Māori healing teachings has been life changing on all levels of being. It has been fast, intense & challenging at times however, necessary. The learning is continuous & for life! Faith & trust in my pathway led to the opening of:
TE AO MĀRAMA TRADITIONAL MĀORI BODYWORK
We are the healers of ourselves! Life's challenges can cloud this realization. At times we need assistance to help facilitate this process to remember & reconnect to the true essence of who we are. Just like the butterfly, without the struggle & fight through adversity, it would not be able to build the strength needed to break out of the darkness & into the light. A transformative process to freedom of being. Tools of guidance, education, support, advice are provided to empower & uplift until people are ready to take over the reins of healing for themselves. Self-responsible, self-accountable. It all starts with a choice! Healing is not a destination; it is a way of being. We need to be shapeshifters that adapt & change with the flow of life. To regularly practice self-honouring. SERVICES.....

ROMIROMI / MIRIMIRI / WHITIWHITIKŌRERO:
Traditional Maaori bodywork can help to release stress, tension & trauma held deep within the body at a cellular level that has accumulated through life's experiences. The movement is slow to get the depth needed for release to take place. It’s not about causing pain; it’s extracting pain to awaken the body, mind & spirit. To remember who you are, as a spiritual being having a physical experience. MAHI RAAKAU - SELF HELP/HEALING
One of the traditional practices of our Traditional Māori Healing Arts. Working the body with a Raakau (stick). The use of the he Raakau will help people discover the places and parts of the body that are challenged. It will always move the user to a deeper level of awareness of self that may have been forgotten. The feet are considered the gateway to the body, so therefore must be worked on first. To open the body up, ignite the internal organs and to instantly bring people into the here & now. A sequence is used to work sections of the feet which correspond to sections of the torso. The movement is slow to get the depth needed to release stored tension, stress & trauma. The work can trigger memories, injuries, past life patterns. It’s not about causing pain; it’s about awakening the body, mind & spirit. Once the feet have been opened, a larger Rākau is used to work the torso in sections. Wānanga are held bi-monthly at the Welcome Bay Community Centre, Tauranga. Or private groups by arrangement. ACC-REGISTERED RONGOĀ MĀORI SERVICE:

🍂WELLNESS MONTH - AUGUST🍃

Te Ao Mārama - Tauranga City Library had approached me back in February to ask if I'd like to collaborate with them to facilitate a short Mahi Rākau Self-Help/Healing Wānanga for their Wellness Month.

It's an opportunity to check in with yourself, connect with others & reenergise. The kaupapa for this Wellness Month is around Te Whare Tapa Wha - a Māori holistic model of health.

This model views health and wellbeing as a wharenui (meeting house) with four walls, each representing a key dimension. These dimensions are: taha wairua (spiritual health), taha hinengaro (mental and emotional health), taha tinana (physical health), and taha whānau (family and social health). The foundation of the wharenui represents the whenua (land) and one's connection to it.

I was going to post the flyer for people to come along but it's already SOLD OUT!!

BUT....

Our Bi-Monthly practice at the Welcome Bay Community Centre, Tauranga will be on in AUGUST. The flyer to register will be posted early August so please keep an eye out for that. Registrations are by email only & is koha based.

😈☠️WALKING FEAR-LESSLY 🚶‍♀️🦸‍♀️🦸

In my belief, fear is the root cause of many things. A sense of worthlessness & not being valued is strongly linked to fear. A lot of the narrative is around "I'm not good enough".
The seed of fear had been imprinted & activated like a light switch. It then continues to grow through constantly watering it with negative self-talk & evidence gathering to prove it must be right. A destructive cycle that is disempowering, isolating & destructing.

How can the switch be flicked to stop this cycle?
The missing factors & the hardest ones to accept & receive are COMPASSION & LOVE for self. Bring in compassion & love for all that you have been through.
Because it is hard for many to love self, think of the child parts of you that needed compassion, love & support. Nurture that child. Connect & build a relationship with that child. In loving & caring for that child to heal, you heal yourself.
In healing yourself, you start to build a safe & secure "home" in your heart space where it's warm & welcoming. And when you're ready, you can now bring that child back home. The energy will land gently like a feather & become part of you again.

Only you know what self-talk goes on inside your head & so only you can pull yourself up. Slowly but surely, the narrative can change when it's lead with compassion & love. Undoing years of conditioning.

When challenging belief systems on whether it's true or not, ask yourself this....

IF IT'S NOT MY SOULS HIGHEST TRUTH, IS HAS NO POWER OVER ME.
Meaning, if it doesn't resonate & align with the essence of your internal compass, it goes. You are rebuilding a "home" built on your belief systems, not past imprinting of others.

Love is the healer, you are the healer.

As always, only take what resonates with you.

👀BODYWORK SPACE NEEDED TO RENT PLEASE 🧐

Still on the hunt!

After 3 years of being in a beautiful space on Oceanbeach Road Mt Maunganui, it's time to move on as the house is up for sale.

As an ACC Rongoā Māori practitioner, I'm looking for a space that will:
• Provide privacy for sensitive claims/injuries bodywork.
• Stress free easy access parking. Wheelchair friendly.
• Toilet.
• Wi-Fi.
• Kitchenette (if possible)

Work hours are Monday - Thursday 9.30am - 5pm. Fridays 9.30am - 12pm.

Location - Bayfair area, Pāpāmoa, Welcome Bay, Te Puke but open to any ideas/offers.

It could be a portion of a house that is self-sustainable that could be utilised. I currently use the lower floor of a house. References available if needed.

I appreciate any help towards finding a new space to continue this important mahi. I thank you all in advance.

🪵 The traditional Māori healing art of Mahi Rākau practice will take you on a journey of self-discovery, self-awareness & realisation. Of things you may have thought you lacked or forgotten about.

🌿A journey of remembrance of who you truly are. With that insight, clarity comes as the cloudiness of mamae lifts. A beautiful sense of peace & calm then flows through you like a gentle mirimiri breeze gifted from your tūpuna.
You are never alone. We are supported, guided & loved always.

🌟Yesterday, the journey went from feeling stuck in a cave, to stepping into the glow of healing light. Standing strong in the right to be here with passion & motivation to get the job done as old thought patterns/belief systems drop away. Creating space & opportunity for new seeds of ideas & realisations to grow.

Next wānanga at the Welcome Bay Community Centre is Sunday August 17th, 1pm.
Registration post will be out in early August.

🪵🌳👣 MAHI RAAKAU WAANANGA - Self-help/Self-healing.

Kia ora e te whānau

Our Bi-monthly practice of Mahi Raakau is on this month - JUNE! FEET & TORSO.
Registrations are now open.

The use of the Raakau, in all its ways and means, is a tool to help people discover the places and parts of the body that are challenged. It will always move the user to some level of understanding and knowing of oneself that may have been forgotten or thought one lacked.
The work may trigger memories, injuries, past life patterns. It’s not about causing pain; it’s about awakening the body, mind & spirit.

Max capacity will be 20 people. Raakau will be provided. For those wanting to bring their own raakau, here are the measurements.
You will need TWO sizes:
25mm diameter by 600mm length
40mm diameter by 600mm length

When:
SUNDAY 15TH JUNE 2025
1pm start till 3.30pmish. Includes a light snack afterwards.
Where:
Welcome Bay Community Centre (Behind the Hall)
242 Welcome Bay Road, Tauranga.
Cost:
KOHA ENTRY (Please koha a reflection of the energy exchanged & to cover costs - ngā mihi 🙏)

TO REGISTER:
megsbodyworx@gmail.com
By EMAIL ONLY if you know you can commit to the wānanga date so that I can keep track of numbers. Also indicate if you will be bringing your own raakau or will need to borrow 1 or both.

I thank you all for your support & belief in the mahi. And for having the faith & courage to step forward to honour yourself.

Thank you always to the Welcome Bay Community Centre for your support.

I look forward to seeing you soon

🌞AHIPARA🌿🌊

A jammed packed couple of days.
Matariki event at Roma Marae was to remember those who had passed in the last year.

Mahi in the clinic with Atarangi & her team for kaumatua day. However, first to join us was a 15 year old young man who's a top rugby league player. Very tight. It was great to work on him to release his body. He was really happy with how he felt afterwards.

Also great to catch up with the beautiful Nic & Carlos again. They're visiting from Essex to further their learning with the bodywork.

It was a hit & run but food for the soul.

Having a quick pit stop in Whangārei & about to head home to Tauranga.

Kia pai tō rā 🌞

🚗 Road trip getaway up North....

Whangārei to see a cuzzie, Hāruru to see my mate Corina Gage, Whangaroa Bay/Kaeo to stay with whānau.
Managed to get in some awesome walks. Timing was perfect as no one else was around. Really peaceful & cup-filling for the soul!
I even busted out a little Crossfit style workout in Kaeo! YES, there's a cool little box in Kaeo! 😊 Surprised myself with how I did! 🤭🤣

Shot over to Ahipara early this morning to catch up with friends. Timed it well for a Matariki event at the marae. More to come...

🦴Bone health is really important as we slide into those mature years. We loose a rapid amount of bone density as we age & even more so post-menopause.

🦴A jump program is a must as part of your health & wellbeing routine.

🦴Dr Tracey Clissold is a great friend of mine. She has worked tirelessly on building this program to help people but women in particular, build strong bones to avoid osteoporosis & other related issues.

🦴I encourage you to take the time to check out her App OSTEO-GAINS & start your bone building journey today!

It's a silent epidemic with no symptoms... and many don't know they have it until they break a bone. Osteoporosis affects two out of three women and one out of three men over the age of 60.

Move aside cow milk, research has shown that you can also strengthen your bones with a bit of a hop, skip, jump!

"Songbird" Fleetwood Mac
Captures the selflessness of love for someone or one's self. Its about you & no one else. It's about you & everyone else.
Happy Valentines Day 💝

For you, there'll be no more crying
For you, the sun will be shining
Because I feel that when I'm with you
It's alright, I know it's right

To you, I'll give the world
To you, I'll never be cold
Because I feel that when I'm with you
It's alright, I know it's right

And the songbirds are singing
Like they know the score
And I love you, I love you, I love you
Like never before

And I wish you all the love in the world
But most of all, I wish it from myself

And the songbirds keep singing
Like they know the score
And I love you, I love you, I love you
Like never before, like never before
