Happy Autumn Equinox from the Majestic Oak
I was born in the Northern Hemisphere, and this year marks my 20th anniversary of moving to New Zealand. Even after two decades, this time of year still resembles memories of spring for me with temperatures in the mid-20s, with the sun shining, blue skies and warm winds.
At our property many flowers are still vibrant, although some petals are beginning to drop. We have a mix of native evergreen trees that retain their leaves year-round, alongside other trees from around the world that are starting to shed their leaves. I really love seeing the true shape of those trees emerge as they change.
It is time for harvesting our fruits, vegetables, mushrooms - (King Stropharia or wine Caps). The walnuts, hazelnuts, sweet chestnuts are starting to drop and being collected and our beautiful oak trees are shedding their acorns.
Take every opportunity to get out into the light as in a few weeks, 5 April, daylight saving ends in New Zealand. I am making the most of the sunshine to soak up some Vitamin D, and went for a swim in the ocean yesterday, which was refreshing, cleansing, and rejuvenating!
Autumn is a time to pause and reflect on our own lives. Just as trees shed their leaves, we are encouraged to let go of what no longer serves us. It's an opportunity to revisit our intentions, especially with the recent New Moon in Pisces and the Sun moving into Aries, marking the astrological new year.
This season invites us to review our lifestyle choices as we transition into the slower, quieter rhythm of autumn, characterized by cool, dry, light, and windy qualities. As the environment changes, our bodies may become more susceptible to imbalances, presenting as dry skin, anxiety, restless sleep, or joint discomfort. Acknowledging these seasonal shifts allows us to make conscious adjustments, enhancing our well-being through mindful self-care and intentional living. As we embrace Autumn, our primary goal is to introduce warmth, stability, balance, and nourishment to support us.
Remain present, embrace, and observe nature, for it truly shows us the path forward. The birds, animals, insects, trees, and waters exist in harmony, and there is so much we can learn from them when we take the time to be still and present. Allow yourself to flow with the rhythms of life, remembering that even the challenging experiences we encounter in life teach us to grow, let go, and evolve.
Happy Equinox and enjoy some photographs I’ve taken!
Love, and peace to you all
