The barriers to liking ourselves are our constructed personalities and the accompanying judgments, impulses, and reactions. Memories of poor decisions, detrimental behaviours , perceived weaknesses, and vulnerabilities all pose to drive our limiting self-beliefs. We can become stuck in a pattern of self-dislike.
Our personalities are almost entirely formed in childhood. Our perspectives were primarily developed in response to our environments- the treatment we received from the people we relied on. We absorbed if we were likable or not in these early environments.

Criticism and trauma flavour the development of our personality and we find coping strategies to protect our psyche. We can disguise our perceived personality flaws with personas- masks. We can become confused about our identity.
What can be done?
An active exploration of our different personas will start the journey of self-understanding. A deeper exploration takes us to our established negative core beliefs that we have carried around. These beliefs can be challenged with various tools and techniques, leading to a significant reduction in anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance use problems.
There is always a way out to move towards better emotional and mental wellbeing.
