Well I seem to have made a milestone of thirty years in the healthcare industry! How the time has flown by. I started in Pharmacy and moved on to being a Pharmacy Technician for many years in retail and hospital pharmacy, here and overseas. After fifteen years or so it dawned on me that people that took large amounts of medication didnāt look that well. I have always had respect for the medical system and continue to do so.
I literally went on a morning tea break and by the time I came back I had decided to study to be a Naturopath. I knew I was on the right track, as no one tried to talk me out of it. I have now been a Naturopath and Bowen Therapist for over ten years.
After many years in the disability sector and mental health areas, I have come to realise that prevention is key to having a full life where we have enough energy to do the things we want to do. With the ever changing environment around us, for me personally I want to beable to focus on what I am good at and that is relating to people, using my skills experience and knowledge to improve health for each person I see. The smile says it all, when people smile I know I am on the right track. Health is a bit like a Agatha Christie mystery, seeking to find the cause and contributing factors!
More recently I have developed a strong interest Heart Health, Alzheimerās and Dementia. I had rheumatic fever when I was nine and two family members had heart bypass surgery later in life. This is major surgery and such a shock to the body, which takes along time to recover from. How incredibly skilled surgeonās are, and to this day I am amazed at their abilities. After time in the disability and mental health sectors cognitive health is a key area of interest for me. I am currently employed in a community mental health agency alongside my clinic work. I manage to balance these really well and one suits and compliments the other.
